soalbundy
well things are heating up, i just hope the insurgents aren't taking the battle further North. on the other hand if this is to destabilize the government then anywhere there are tourists is a potential target, that is going to worry everybody not just tourists. The army aint happy

animatic
Well you started it Mr Suthep and i don't believe for one min that this is the work of insurgents in the south. Well shall see what the real objective is when the palm oil refineries are being targeted. The reds are backing one side and Suthep has always been on the other side, plus the yellows are on that side, the majority of the south is yellow, but plenty of reds come to the south for construction work. No doubt biting tongues for profit. This goes back, much, much farther than the latest round that brought down Yingluck, so you just can't say "...Suthep started this..." he is just the latest in figureheads in this long proxy war. All this goes back 2 decades at least in the political battles, and 10 years since they started to take down Thaksin 9 since he fell. and 5 years since the reds were started to be removed as Thaksin tried to take down the Dems. in return. Baerboxer
The cooperative is owned by Suthep Thaugsuban, now is a monk at a temple in Surat Thani. Hmm interesting caused by a fire. Could be a little payback involved? This guy seems to be more than a poor monk. More than a poor monk!!! My goodness this man has taken more money of the poor than anyone. Thaksins fortune is palm nuts (pardon the expression) in comparrison. Read up on the palm oil scam when the yellow shirts where in power. Interesting read. You have proof of your allegations. You know how much Suthep and Thaksin are worth? And you know what % is "unusual", with the evidence to support it? Can you share with us please? If not we'll assume you're just spouting crap or lying. How many convictions does Thaksin have and how many outstanding criminal charges waiting should the coward return? Now compare to Suthep. Maybe you should broaden your reading!

ezzra
Welcome Thailand to the age of urban terrorized, where things blow up indiscriminately aiming at killing and maiming as many people as possible, So fat Thailand so kept out such acts, but now, join other countries like in the middle east and Africa who's been dealing with this things for years now, the government and the police will do well to nip it in the bus right now, and severely punish those responsible for all to see..... crusty
Panithan says it won't take long to probe Samui car bomb incident KOH SAMUI: -- Panitharn Watanayakkorn, an advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, said the authorities have gathered a lot of information and evidences related to the car bomb attack at the Central Samui department store late Friday night. Panitharn said the attack was definitely not done by local people. He said the authorities would not take a long time to pinpoint the attacker. Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/Panithan-says-it-wont-take-long-to-probe-Samui-car-30257895.html -- The Nation 2015-04-11 So the stolen pick up was known to security officials as they were afraid it would be used as a car bomb. Well done the alert security officials at both ends of the ferry piers for allowing the truck to board and disembark onto Samui.

Government spokesperson Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd sure is quick at pointing fingers though Usual immediate red-shirt denial and immediate blaming of the other side. Your 'false flag' nonsense after the investigation which clearly uncovered a network of people (not the one or two fall-guy patsies we got from Chalerm) would be laughable if it wasn't so disgusting. I bet you said the protestors were blowing themselves up right up until those red-shirts got caught with an M79. Are you proud to support a terrorist organisation ?.

Bangkok Barry
If the attacks are Muslim-related then there is a perfect target for them in Bangkok. Patpong is world famous as a red light area and there is a car park above Foodland where anyone can drive in and park a large van packed with explosives with no security check at all. Not only can they destroy a large area of Patpong with its go-go bars, but immediately to the north the soi catering largely for the gay community. That way they achieve several 'triumphs' in one go - killing sex workers, gays and the tourist trade. I'm sure they must be perfectly aware of this, and it surprises me that they haven't hit the area so far.
Enoon
From BBC News: "Seven people have suffered minor injuries on the popular tourist island of Koh Samui in Thailand" "Poonsak Sophonpathumrak said the bomb went off after a fashion show in the basement of the mall near the popular Chaweng beach." "Six Thais and a 12-year-old Italian girl suffered injuries." This would indicate that injuries were intended. Southerners seem most likely resposible, surely it was only a matter of time before they started to go for targets of greater "economic" significance? The claim that it was done on behalf of another group sounds a bit shaky, but maybe The General has managed to forge an alliance between North and South? Two front war? That's the sort of thing that good generals try to avoid. Edited April 11, 2015 by Enoon

All red shirt area 7-11's have them next to the jars of coffee and hand grenades, yes bizzare isn't it? MobileContent
I think we all have to keep slowing down a bit. 1) Could be the Southern Insurgents 2) Could you be the Red Shirts 3) Could be a business conflict at least for the storage facilities that is owned by Suthep I put my money for the moment on 1) the Southern insurgency. Just a few weeks ago I posted in TV that it is just a matter of time before the insurgents will target tourist destinations. As for the stories that some ill intentioned groups are hiring the insurgents, I don't believe in it.
djjamie
Interesting that the bit about the warehouse being owned by the number one arch enemy of the PTP and UDD with their absolute belief that the warehouse owner was the reason why the UDD and PTP are not currently in power is left to the very last sentence and said in a "matter of fact" way. In the words of Haggis "This is way to convenient for my suspicious mind" and all on the anniversary of the uprising that Jatuporn was not allowed to celebrate. Also with tourism numbers at record levels (as shown by Bank of Thailand official statistics and not holiday memoirs) which the UDD hate to admit this bomb seems to be strategically located to impact on the industry negatively which will support the UDD narrative, but sadly at the behest of the people they still think support them…..The majority, with the Thai citizens in the tourist sector being mostly impacted. I pray that the dark old days of red terrorism are not returning. The majority do not deserve a repeat of this violence. Keep your head up brave Thai majority. The 7%'ers will not soften your resolve for peace and stability. Edited April 11, 2015 by djjamie

It's not supporting a terrorist organization; that's an absurdly half-sided thing to say. It's not accepting the incredibly limited views you demand in response. I for one, wouldn't be surprised if red shirts were behind it. I just have the maturity to recognize that a group of people who may call themselves 'red shirts', do not represent the hearts and minds of the millions and millions of people you discount so easily here each day. I also have the experience and maturity to understand, a little better, the generations of systematic oppression which are behind actions like this - as saddening as those actions are - and that systematic oppression and destitute poverty are equally unforgivable. What is it about you, that you can't include that in any of your statements? I consider that telling. And, I'll ask you this: what is it about addressing the poverty issue behind so much of this, that makes you so uncomfortable? I've never seen you address it, here. You don't have any kind of personal stake, in seeing those things go unaddressed in Thailand, right? You don't have a lifestyle based on them existing, do you? Thai Travel Bug
Let me reiterate a little. Yes, jihad has now hit Thailand, and it has infiltrated tourist destinataions.....this car bombing was a trial run by the muslim brothers of southern Thailand to see what damage it may cause....They will build, and change build bit by bit.m. This will not be Thai muslim against Thai budhist by any means.....there is no reason in todays bigger picture to call the muslims opposition Buddhist. This was the first try and experiment in a western congregated tourist area... This was a soft opening for lack of better words. Westerners in Thailand beware.....Jihad is upon westerners in western tourist destinations from this day forward....Jihad is well and truly upon us.....Take care.
