About 80% of tourism is generated by the country's sex industry. So, are you saying those workers shouldn't be so lazy and put on better performances to please the tourists?I wholeheartedly agree with you on that point. I live here and am absolutely appalled at what I see across the whole country. Visitors come to see "amazing Thailand" not polluted oceans and waterways fillled piles and piles of plastic and trash. Clean it up while your tourists are still coming and maybe they'll come back again.

Popular Post jackinthebox
I've travelled Thailand for more than 10 years now. I have never had any issues or problems with hotels, restaurants, car rentals, supermarkets, night-pubs, barbers, public busses, boats, karaoke-bars, temples or national parks (except the 400 Baht entrance fee for foreigners - but thats a clear "rule".) Everybody always fair, mostly friendly, sometimes interested. Concerning Men in Brown, I got two 500Baht-tickets altogehter, one time I didn't wear a helmet, the other time I hadn't my driving licence with me, so no reason to grumble here. The ONLY thing that goes on my nerves again and again and again are these annoying Taxi-/ TucTuc-/ Songtheauw- and Motorsaay-Drivers. Wherever I go: chances are high they try to cheat me. Wherever I walk: they bother with their repeated "Mister Mister need taxi?" and their constant honking. Whenever I'am feeling good and have a relaxed afternoon: for sure there will be one asking an unreasonable price or refusing the trip. Doesn't matter at the seaboard, the airport, in Bangkok or in deep Isahn - you always have to tackle with them. If Thai politics or city-administration could clean up this mess (for example crackdown on waiting TucTuc or impose clear (englisch) price-boards in Songtheauws and at Motorsaay-Taxistands) that would be a hugh improvement. Millions of tourists would have a nicer holiday and travel-expirience.

Many contractors, Internet Developers and entrepreneurs made Thailand their second home. Now they have moved to Cambodia thanks to the silly visa regulations invoked under his watch.. Being an authoritarian, he does not realize that you do not control your businesses, your customers do. The customers dictate. You merely manage. Prayuth Yingluck Abhisit Somchai Samak Surajud Thaksin While Abhisit and Yingluck were young and modern it didn't work well. If I have to rank them: Surayud, Prayuth, Samak, Abhisit, Somchai, Yingluck, Thaksin I would say Prayuth is on top of the best PMs in the last 15 years. (But only because Kermit the Frog wasn't PM, he would lead by a fair margin)

Popular Post thhMan
It wont happen till Thais get an education that has global context. Being born in a cocoon as Thais do, the only ones that can appreciate anything outside of Thailand are those that have been abroad... which leaves the rest of the population thinking the word revolves around them A good place to start is to p***s of those Thai soapies and replace them with global information... it wont take long then for Thais to realize how great the rest of the world is... and how they are just a small part of it, but with fantastic potential if they choose to take it Edited April 18, 2015 by thhMan

Clean it up while your tourists are still coming and maybe they'll come back again. or... maybe the PM could visit Chiang Mai once again, and try and get around the city on foot. He would find it difficult to stay on the footpaths, as they're filled with motor bikes, and many of the footpaths are broken and crumbling away. It's easier, but more risky, to walk on the streets. Thais do this, but always with their backs to the traffic. I've been here more than 3 years and have yet to see any work done for those using their feet. As for motor traffic, gridlocks are becoming more common, as so many large farm vehicles (4WDs) take up a lane and a half and think they're king of the road.

elenajkelly
Dear Mr. Prime Minister, Thailand is already worth visiting! And it saddens me to see all the negative responses here. If you don't think it's worth being here, why in the world don't you go somewhere else? Perhaps most just complain endlessly because it's not cool to just go with the flow. I adore everything about Thailand and there is no place on this planet that I would rather be. But I'm just one woman who is filled with gratitude for the chance to live in paradise. So please, Mr. Prime Minister, remember why you took over the government last year. You believed you could make things better for Thais and visitors. It is worth it to come to Thailand, and your passion for this country is why so many Thais love what you are doing. And to those who can only see problems, have you stepped up to make things better yet?

rmacee
Thailand, regardless of it's reputation has two things going for it .. 1. Everyone want to come here at least once ..and there are a lot of Chinese !! 2. Alternatives are not good ..Cambodia, Mayamar, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam ..good place to visit but hasn''t got that 'rose tinted glasses' appeal of Phuket ..Chiang Mai etc. My 2 daughters (mid 20s from the UK) visited the usual tourist spots ..they have expressed no interest in coming back .. Popular Post Mot Dang
Just goes to show you just how much Thailand is going to have to rely on tourism, in the not so distant future, as a main bread winner. And there a people in Thailand that will go to any length to establish that at any price.. For the last 20 years Thai administrations have crapped all over the Western expat community, as well as Western tourists (and I'm not talking about the bar fly's). They were quality visitors, and they built/initiated the Thai tourist industry from the very early 80's. Now that most of the Americans, Brits, Australians etc, have gone home, and not too happy coming back (why if you have the likes of Vietnam developing ?), TAT is panicking. The PM is making statements about enticing them back. Guess he is thinking "they were not so bad after all !" The Russian experiment failed. Blind Freddie could see that coming, and now we have the Chinese and their absolutely appalling habits. Habits that fly in the face of everyday Thai people. I just hope that cheap and nasty does not win the day.
