Lite Beer
Worst storm in 20 years hit Nakhon PhanomNAKHON PHANOM, 3 May 2015 (NNT) – Nakhom Phanom province has witnessed the worst tropical storm in 20 years causing damages to nearly 200 houses in the central district in just one hour. The storm has damaged more than 2,000 houses since its arrival last month. The government has forked out over 50 million baht on the repair of damaged property. The budget is exclusive of financial aid of up to 30,000 baht which it approved for each of affected families.Authorities reported the storm last night struck nearly 200 houses in three sub-districts. Administrative officials and the military are combining forces to help assess the damage before starting the repair and other assistance schemes.Nakhon Phanom Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office said the volatile weather had intensified the frequency and strength of the storm, adding that this year’s damage to property was the heaviest in 20 years.Authorities have warned local people to remain on the alert for a possible comeback of a thunderstorm. -- NNT 2015-05-
SunsetT
"Forked out".............. ! "Nakhon Phanom Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office said the volatile weather had intensified the frequency and strength of the storm"......................Duuuhhhhh..........??? .........Yep! Those thunderstorms are really sneaky! When you are not looking they turn right around and come back and hit you again.....! Wonderful examples of Thai English and logic. Doesnt it really give you confidence in the authorities! No fatalities I hope. Luckily Nakhon Phanom town has escaped the worst once again. northernphil
It has damaged more than 2000 homes since its arrival. I bet they will glad when it has finished with them and gone off to cause trouble somewhere else, arrest it for assault and battery before it picks on someone else. diehard60
This is funny. I live in NKP. This is not the worst storm in 20 years. Where we are there has been very little wind or rain. Nakae district is dry. I think the goverment officials are just lining their pockets again.

You can be hit by one but not the village 1/2k down the road. I can recall once racing on my bicycle along the riverfront at Nakhon Phanom to get home before a thunderstorm hit me, but it overtook to the left of me as a black curtain of torrential rain about 50 metres away on the Mekong while I remained dry. It is pot luck whether you get hit by one or no.
Chestnut
This is funny. I live in NKP. This is not the worst storm in 20 years. Where we are there has been very little wind or rain. Nakae district is dry. I think the goverment officials are just lining their pockets again. I guess you were lucky then. We have a house near the Nakhon Phanom City and on one side of the house almost all windows broke (the house has lots of windows). A roof from another house landed behind the house of my father in law. From what I hear (we werent there) quite a few houses in the village were affected. Big tree nearby just fell down so the wind must have been pretty strong.
