Samui Car Bomb Suspect Shot Dead in Pattani: Police

By Khaosod Eng.

PATTANI — Security officers in the restive province of Pattani have reportedly killed a terrorism suspect connected to the car bomb that exploded on the popular resort island of Koh Samui last month.

The suspect was shot dead after he refused to surrender to security officers during a raid early on 2 May, said Pol.Gen. Somyot Pumpanmuang, commander of the Royal Thai Police.

According to Pol.Gen. Somyot, more than 50 security officers surrounded a religious school called Darulbarakah School in Mueang district at around 2 am after they received reports that members of local separatist movement were gathering at the area.

Pol.Gen. Somyot said security officers spotted people moving inside the madras and shouted at them to surrender, but gunshots rang out from the school, prompting police and soldiers to return fire. After several hours of standoff, the gunfight died down, and security officers secured the school.

Samui car bomb suspect killed in Pattani

PATTANI: -- A suspect in Samui car bomb explosion in April was shot dead by security forces during a school raid in Pattani’s Muang district Saturday night.

National police chief, Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung, today confirmed the death of Mahamazu Jehha, a resident of Yarung, who was alleged to be the driver of a Honda car which was seen in a video footage with the bomb-rigged pick-up truck at Central Festival shopping mall in Samui.

Besides the alleged involvement in the car bomb blast, Pol Gen Somyot said Mahamazu had several arrest warrants against him, including for arson, insurgency and illegal assembly.

The raid took place Saturday night after security forces were given a tip-off that six suspicious-looking men were spotted at a school in Muang district of Pattani. Upon arriving at the school, the security forces came under gunfire and fought back, killing Mahamazu.

Two suspects were arrested. They were identified as Waesorhor Doloh and Suriya Daha. Three others have managed to escape.

Nice to see a happy ending once in a while.

Happy in what way?

"security forces" were given a tip-off that six suspicious-looking men were spotted at a school in Muang district of Pattani. Note not the police or military that implies civilian paramilitary forces.

"security officers" spotted people moving inside the madras and shouted at them to surrender.

These statements comes from the military. This "security action" by "security forces" seems similar to the irresponsible assault by paramilitary forces recently (2015-04-24) on the during a raid that the military said "was an attempt to arrest insurgents who were planning to stage attacks against the authorities in the region. The military initially told the media the four victims were armed militants who opened fire on security officers, prompting the officers to shoot back."

However, an independent committee ruled on 6 April that the four men were not related to the ongoing Islamic insurgency in the region, or armed when the raid took place, citing forensic evidence and witnesses' testimonies.

Even if people inside the madras opened fired at the surrender order - who could blame them? It's kill or be killed. The paramilitary forces act like rogue military force, acting without military supervision, and conducting what essentially constitutes terrorism against civilians.

You make a valid argument

As we know, not everything is as it seems

So this is a terrorism act. No wonder why they said it was political, can't lose any more tourism!

Terror acts are always based on political or religious motives.

True but then again the damage to tourism would be much worse saying it was muslim terrorists as opposed to politically motivated....which of course it wasn't.

Judging by the appalling standards of security post the car bomb it wouldn't be surprising at all if this was not the last of it either.

Well no doubt the gov will be lauding the efforts of their security forces with a pat on the back and a job well done and oh yes the all so important .. case closed. This will be shortly followed by the TAT announcing an increase of tourism by a million or two with an expected increase in tourist spend.

All so rosy in the garden of Thailand where nothing sticks ... the makers of teflon would love to know the Thai secret.

So six followers of this well known religion of peace, love and harmony were in a Madrassa i.e. an Islamic school where people are supposed to go to read the Koran and study their religion. So <deleted> are they doing all tooled up !! I never went to Sunday school with my bible, kalashnikov and a few spare mags. In a raid on a seminary it would be pretty unexpected for the priests to respond with a hail of automatic weapon fire.

Whoever these security forces were they confronted armed terrorists in a front for a terrorist training centre at the risk of their own lives. Good on them. Sadly 5 of the terrorists got away and who knows how many innocents they will go on to butcher.

I do wonder if they had been instructed "take no prisoners", may be indeed they were the the perpetrators of the attack, but the organisers probably had an alternative motive which was not theirs, many times on the

island last week I hear the words "political" & "business".

The spin doctors done their jobs of utterly confusing everyone, now a shooting, soon expect it will all be forgotten about & swept under the carpet.

The trick is do you drop the 1000 Baht notes every 5 steps or every 10 steps as you run away, a tough decision, money or freedom. The ¨security forces¨ got someone to pin it on so I would think 10 steps would do but to be 100% certain I would take the 5 steps, after all it´s only money.......
