By Coconuts Bangkok

KRABI: -- A dozen or so students in the south of Thailand almost got a day off school after the truck they were crammed into collided with another vehicle, shooting their little bodies into the road from the open back.

Yes, that is an official school van, at least in Krabi. Safety regulations? Don’t even think about it.

Amazingly, none of the children were injured in the terrifying incident captured by a security camera which spread online today. [read more]

Both drivers must be blind, but one carrying school kids should be sent to jail for that. He must have seen car coming and still turned.

100%, I could not beleive he did that either !

Just Thailand being Thailand. Nothing to see here folks.

And this accident will change absolutely nothing for anyone. Even if all of the kids died in this accident there would be no review of the system or any lessons learnt.

Speed bumps outside schools would help a little..

Both drivers should be punished in this case. 1 for speeding and the other for being an idiot..

Nothing will change though

I am not sure how you can say that a driver was speeding... how are you calculating the speed ??

Because they are Buddhists they don't dwell on the past and only live for the present. The future is out of their hands so they don't bother with 'safety measures'. Yes, nothing will change unless the mindset changes.

The black pick-up over took him while he was about to turn right

He wouldnt have seen the on-coming pick-up until he turned as the black pick-up would have blocked his view

Still shouldnt have turned without checking but hey ho this is Thailand..

Can't believe both drivers being so incredibly stupid, you don't even see an attempt by the oncoming car to avoid the crash. Actually there was a slight turn into the ditch but was travelling way too fast.

Un effin believable! They were just lucky that the oncoming pickup driver swerved to the left and hit the front end... Think the driver of the black pickup, taking over the school taxi just before it turned is to blame as well since he - during his stupid maneuver (stupid assuming that the school taxi guy indicated where he was going) - blocked the view of the school taxi driver before he turned... However, by the looks of it - a crash that could easily have been avoided by driving responsibly and with foresight, but Thai can't do :(

Welcome To Thai Visa ...

I cannot believe that you made such a silly comment after watching the video.

The driver of the school van turned into the other cars path, what was he supposed to do "fly"

Teachable moment. What to do in case of a car accident? Run away. Most of the kids passed with flying colours...a few slackers let some minor cuts a scrapes keep them from their required task.

You silly person, you not see boys picking up lunch and homework ??

There's a real simple way to change a mindset. Make it too expensive not to change.

We drivers in the west are selfish procks, and yet they were able to change our behavior with the right rules and enforcement...while allowing us to retain our selfishness.

Why was the 'security' camera there? Appears to be a static camera in an elevated position and so presumably for surveillance of what appears to be an innocuous rural junction. If it's an accident black-spot why no police presence?

Most likely he didn't indicate he was turning right!

The pick up that hit him seemed to be travelling fatst

That was SO weird about the aftermath of the crash... All the kids out on the pavement, and most get up and start heading down the road away from the crash site toward (school???).

Most of them didn't bother with the one or two still on the ground at the roadside. And none of them went over to where the two vehicles had ended up or to check on the drivers.

Obviously, they've been taught well. whistling.gif

As I have said a hundred times on this forum Thais have no respect or duty of care for their children what parent would let a child travel to school with an incompetent driver with no training whatsoever and in a vehicle that is designed for carrying goods not people and no seat belts or restraints in the vehicle much safer just to walk the children to school or drive them yourself.
