Tomtomtom69
According to a number of articles, including this one: http://www.lifechiangmai.com/new-myanmar-consulate-general-opens-in-chiang-mai/ a new Myanmar Consulate-General has opened in Chiang Mai. This means if you are based in northern Thailand (or just travelling around and happen to be in the area) and need a Myanmar visa, which will be convenient for overland entry at Mae Sai/Tachilek and Mae Sot/Myawady or if flying on one of the direct services on Bangkok Airways from Chiang Mai to Yangon or Chiang Mai to Mandalay or other direct services operated by Myanmar carriers between Chiang Mai and Myanmar, you may as of right now obtain your Myanmar visa in Chiang Mai instead of Bangkok or going via a travel agency. I'm not sure about the closures of the embassy or this new consulate-general due to Myanmar and Thai holidays, but as the consulate-general was only opened on Wednesday and yesterday and today are public holidays, I would assume that Monday will be the first day that most visa applicants will be able to apply for a visa there. In another somewhat related development, by the end of this year, at least one new international crossing, from Mae Hong Son to Kayah State may be opened. This will then become the closest Thai-Myanmar international border checkpoint to Chiang Mai: http://www.ttrweekly.com/site/2015/06/myanmar-proposes-new-checkpoint/
