Czech expat dies in Phuket motorbike crash

PHUKET: -- A 44-year-old man from the Czech Republic died in the early hours of this morning when he crashed his motorbike near the Kathu temple following a trip to Patong with his son.

At 2:30am, Thung Thong police were called to the scene of a motorbike accident on Wichit Songkram Rd near the Kathu temple.

Police arrived at the scene with Kusoldharm rescue workers to find the body of a foreign man, named as Jaroslav Krupka, lying in a pool of blood with a broken right leg. A teenage boy was crying and holding the victim's body. A wrecked motorbike was around 50 metres away.

The body of the man was taken to Vachira hospital.

Lt Sawanya Eidtrong from Thung Thong police said that after questioning the victim's son, police learned that the two been to the Patong beach area on separate motorbikes. When they were returning Mr Jaroslav lost control of his motorbike and crashed into the central reservation, this caused his body to fall from the motorbike and hit the lamp post.

The Phuket News has been told that the victim's Thai wife has been notified of the incident.
