lannalad
A follow up question: Is there a charge for riding through the Cambodian crossing, say at Koh Kong, on a motorcycle/scooter? Customs or something? If I decided to stay long term could I then register my Honda Dream in Cambodia? Thanks.
phuketrichard
yes, they tell u 100 baht/day for every day ur going to stay in Cambodia, They will also tell you your ONLY allowed to ride in Koh Kong Province but nobody cares. If u exit at kk they will charge you 200 baht /day over what you said u were staying so go out elsewhere.

Thai bikes/cars go in and out all the time He was turned back at the Laos/Cambodia border. That is a notorious border where the Cambodia side often refuses entry to foreign registered vehicles without a permit. Your best bet for crossing FROM Laos into Cambodia is by driving a Lao or Cambodian registered car or bike. Vietnamese ones can now reportedly also cross this border without incident due to a new agreement. But Thai vehicles can not, so anyone crossing using a Thai vehicle would either be in possession of a permit or got lucky with an official who was lenient, but try again the next day and you may not be so lucky. Crossing from Cambodia INTO Laos usually works out OK, even in a Thai registered vehicle. However, reportedly the Cambodian side wants to see some kind of approval to allow you to leave there, but this is based on a report by another member, edh69. He had a permit though so got through without incident. Unfortunately, doing a search on Google reveals precious little about Cambodia/Laos crossings by vehicle, other than a 2010 report from Goanna Tracks, who had permits and crossed from Cambodia into Laos. Crossing between Thailand and Laos directly is of course no problem at all.
lannalad
Thanks for the feedback. I'm now thinking of selling here and then renting or buying (used) in Cambodia, though the prices on the one site I saw seemed pretty high. Hate to be without my own wheels!
