bars closing at 12 am

Not to flog the proverbial expired equine but some good old unsubstantiated rumor..

Been a bit out of the lower LK loop for a while but seeing the hole that has become of dragonfly2 I had my curiosity peaked.. Baring in mind this was delivered in the usual haze of half truths, excuses, bar distractions and drink.. But she says that DFly2 now has a 5 year ban imposed (thats the 4th, with the corner whatever it was called, lucky, and CM Saloon) and will be set up as a restaurant. In true thai fashion they are fine with her selling beers from DFly1, walking them around the wall, and serving them in DFly2, as long as all bills are made and kept in DFly1.. Apparently this is how CM saloon is still opening, drinks and bills come from next door ??

I joked around and assumed she got a late night bust and she initially laughed it off with a 'yeah' but then later claimed it was also related to the point of changing the liquor license / name to her own.. When she first took it over they told her to wait, and now she waited they have refused a new license.. This is where the rumor gets interesting.

She maintains.. That no one on the south side of Loy Khroh, can get a liquor license any more from the moat to soi 1.. If they have a license they can keep it (provided perfect behavior) but licenses cannot be applied for, change name, resell, any of that.. Basically they are phasing out alcohol sales on the south side LK moat to soi 1.. She also says they showed her a map, and the map with the red line of 'no licenses' actually extends to soi 3 not soi 1, but verbally the police stated soi 1.. So plenty of room for confusion.

If you think about it.. Banning south side LK alcohol licenses, from moat to soi 3, would perfectly suit mr No Noisy sign.. That dovetails so neatly with that protest it looks a lot like 2+2=

Of course.. Take it for what its worth.. Who knows how the wind blows over time.

My complements to LivinLOS for properly qualifying his post--he made it clear he doesn't know if it is the complete, unvarnished truth, but it's seems to me to be as credible as any of the many rumors flying around about the future of CM nightlife and Loi Kroh.

I think the only certainty is that the situation is in flux, especially for Loi Kroh and the Zoe area, and no one knows how it will end. It would take a brave or foolish person to invest under these circumstances.

^^

I wouldn't report anyone to anyone about anything.

I've learnt to keep my nose out of other people's business.

And so you dont complain or get pissed off when things dont turn out as you expected them too? I have absolutely no problem at all in reporting those that have zero understanding or acknowledgement of common decency society accepted laws.

Or to put in in other words....Im not a dead fish and wont go with the flow. If something is not right then I tend not to turn a blind eye to it. Or as we were taught in the military.... to let a crime go unpunished is to have done the crime yourself.

.....maybe that means in order to live in a civilised society that sometimes you need to grow some balls and defend/stand up for what you believe is proper.

But then this is only but my opinion....one in which Im happy to defend

".Im not a dead fish and wont go with the flow" SO you follow what Rules- laws? Many country have different rules make another people .. sometimes contrary to the laws of a country other.

So??

if you follow evry time laws evry country its mean you " dead fish go with the flow"thumbsup.gif

"up for what you believe is proper."

Tell me what you belive?wai.gif

Proper what laws and what country?

If were talking someone harming another then yes of course one would step in and help.

I have seem many times when a Man is physically fighting with a Woman and another Man steps into help her, then both the Man & Woman stop fighting with each other and join forces to attack the helper .

I stopped thinking I know anything that can be considered 100% 'the facts' a long time ago here.. Even when you hear it right from the horses mouth, it so often turns out to be arse backwards.

Most TV members are too old to commend on these clubs, ask them about the situation on Loy Kroh, you might get an answer,

Cheers.

I would have said a bit earlier on warm up.. but not by much.. But they are milling about and leaving after last drinks..

For sure theres been a bit of relaxation on the firm midnight.. LK bars generally 1ish..

That hasnt translated to larger 'well behaved' bars like beer lab.. The check bins are enforced at 11:50 and they really dont like you asking for a last order. They aim to be 'closed' by 12 with patrons leaving.

Can only quote Warm Up the last time I was there. What happens other times I've no idea.

Beer Lab and Beer Republic better as far as I'm concerned. Bit dead though, even when busy. Warm Up def a better party vibe but rammed too full, and of course, it's all kids.

Oxide Pub are doing a promotion,

Singha Light .... 3 large for 144bht.

This week only.

https://www.facebook.com/OxidePubChiangmai/?fref=nf

Or opposite in T-bar,

Tiger Beer ....... 3 large for 150bht.

refrigeration has been in LOS for 80 years, and they still have no clue....3 for 100 or 3 for 1000...warm beer is warm beer.

I would have thought it is more to do with making money than ignorance. Plenty of Thais put ice in their beer, so I imagine that since the beer is so cheap they are trying to make a little bit extra by charging for a big bucket of ice. Thais almost always eat when they drink so I imagine they are not too bothered about farangs that go to just for the cheap beer, don't order food, don't want to pay for ice and moan about the beer not being cold. I'm not accusing you of that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get people like that.

If you pay for beer at cost price, you cannot expect it to be cold, refrigerating the beer would bring the cost up

Haha, yes agreed. Although I'm perfectly fine with ice in it. In fact I prefer it; much like the Fanta (super orange and super sweet), it is INTENDED to be served with ice.

At least in the local places I'm understood.. In the tourist bars I always have to ask for a glass.. and ice... They seem to think I want to drink straight out of a bottle like some Neanderthal cave man.

Also, the quicker the ice melts, the sooner the beer-pretty is back to put more ice in my glass. Therefore, warmer beer is better.

Are they back now for real? Just saw a Chang chick back in BKK last week. She even asked me for a photo :)

....might have been an undercover immigration agent though...

Can't speak to other places, but in northern England drinking out of a bottle is safer, even the fairer sex. Years ago I screwed my nose up at my sister and all of her friends drinking out of bottles like navvies, but there is so much drink spiking going on, even the police and PSA posters in magazines, pubs and clubs are advising people to only drink out of bottles, and even then to never let them out of their sight.

Bars here may be used to people refusing glasses???

I kind of like Bus Bar.. didn't look like it was going anywhere for a long time, but getting a good and very diverse crowd now. (Not sure that will continue into the hotter months though)

That's an interesting point, I didn't know that could be a reason. Although it doesn't sound impossible to spike a drink in a bottle and may even be easier as there's no visual clue.

Possibly I'm just not lowering myself to those kinds of circles enough, but either way I will continue to consume beverages in gentlemanly manner.

Its proximity to a swamp full of mossies is what puts me off that place.

To squash any rumors and set the record straight.

- Drinks & Bills ARE NOT coming from My Place Lounge for CM Saloon, nor will they ever. Whoever has been told this I would like to know where the information came from.

- CM Saloon has NOT bought My Place Lounge nor is he in the process of purchasing the bar.

If you look you can probably find a quiet lock-in at a small bar, but if you're looking for a serious party place after 1 a.m., I know of nothing. I don't know if the rules will be relaxed for Songkran.

Oh for the days wandering back to my apartment in Santitam (25 years ago), at 5am after great night out.

Or sitting at Johns Place having a final beer before going for breakfast. (then some nooky maybe)

Vitamins and Viagra! Keep on truckin'!
