There is a good little car aircon place on the North bound carriageway of Sukhumvit opposite the Ford showroom, he is right next to the Jomtien Animal Hospital vet, Regret I have no idea what he would charge but remember he is not expensive and knows about air cons,

Going north on Suk. from Pattaya Tai there is a 3 shop house wide place that sells batteries and does Air service. They charge me 400 baht when ever I need to refill which I do about 3 times a year. Its about 5 shophouses before the Honda bigwing shop.

Hey , wait a minute here...you need a refill 3 times a year ? Have you got a leak ?

Yes, and an old car. Just replaced the AC compressor that died a few days ago too.

Thanks Rimmer yes went there yesterday, in the end only needing filling up with gas 400b. I went to one just after ford garage before traffic lights to get other quote an the little scammer tried to make out i had a leak an needed a new Evaporater an Valve cost 6,800b. Even B.Quik tried to make out i needed new filter, cleaning an gas 3,000b. Unbelievable. So thanks again for directing me to an honest garage. Not many around. Thats why i always get more than 1 quote over here with repairs esp auto/ mopeds.

I used Rimmers recommendation last year to replace the burned out a/c clutch on Mrs NL's CR-V. The guy does great work and charges appropriately but don't count on 100% personal service while-u-wait as he has so many drive-by gas top-ups, he gets really busy. Better to agree on what's needed, the price and leave the vehicle for the agreed time and bugger off to the mall, pub... or Soi 6.

To save anybody a wasted journey went down today first at 10am then at 11am both times closed..........may of shut down?..........maybe somebody who passes there on a regular basis could check it out.....

I ended up going to United Pattaya Auto.......on the left of Sukhumvit 50m past the lights where the flyover turns off Suk............was going to replace the belt and the bearings but he told me only belt needed...........520 for belt 400 for labour, done in an hour while i waited.

The guy is U.S trained mechanic with good english..................

Theres another auto air con specialist north of Esso station in North Pattaya/Naklua, between North Pattaya(Bangkok Hospital) And Naklua Rd.

With cleaning and gassing, when the compressor give out or was running dry when there are leaks it could introduce small metal shavings into the system and get left around in radiator and pipings, without good clean and flush before regassing, once you've replaced the compressor, the metal bits could come back and wreach havoc on the new compressor.

If you have to add refrigerant, you do have a leak. It may be more cost effective to keep topping it up, but it is absolutely leaking.

Yep, and that is very environmentally unfriendly.  They can go decades without a charge.  And, yes, contaminated lines will ruin a new compressor in short order.  Running it low on refrigerant will fairly quickly ruin the compressor, which is good for only 1000 hours of runtime anyways.  Sensors and electronic control modules come into play, too.
