Down here on Samui so many coconut groves have been cleared for construction that may never happen . Not much confidence in building houses that the target market of westerners can't own. The cleared lands make for horrible red scars on the landscape that erode further every time it rains. Can this land be replanted and stabalised with rubber or palm ? Any ideas or links would be appreciated, thanks Last year i wondered onto a Rubber plantation somewhere near Maenam and the trees looked to be doing very well, all around were Coconut trees..as usual. So I assume that the land for growing coconuts should be okey for rubber. As well as some other provinces like Phangnga or Phuket, there are many coconuts and rubbers in the same land. Cheers! friend2 Posted December 28, 2006 Share Posted December 28, 2006 Are your intention only to stabilize the land ? If so, oil palms would be the better choice. Oil palms grow much faster and has a more extensive root system. If you're looking to one day harvest the palms, make sure you have a "weight station" to sell to. Not sure about that on Samui ?
