Jonathan Fairfield
Another pedophile teacher arrested for child molestation and pornography CHIANG MAI:-- Police today arrested a 67-year-old American national in Chiang Mai on a charge of possessing child pornography. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) together with the US Embassy arrested James Newman at his home in Mae Tang district after they were tipped off that the suspect allegedly molested young boys and shared nude photos of them on Facebook. According to police, James used to be an English teacher and often invited young boys in his neighborhood to play at his house. Chicog
Good job the eejit didn't realise how sophisticated the technology is these days. We also use technology to help combat the spread of exploitative material. One of the most effective technologies that has helped my team is a relatively new tool called, “PhotoDNA.” Created by Microsoft and Dartmouth computer science professor Hany Farid, PhotoDNA can proactively detect child exploitation material on the site, and in some cases, can prevent it from ever being uploaded. Once PhotoDNA detects an illicit image, we immediately suspend the account responsible, generate a report for us to review, and escalate to the appropriate child protection agency. The tool has amazing accuracy, and it has enabled us to find problematic content faster than ever before. Facebook’s engineering team is constantly tinkering with new improvements to PhotoDNA, and we’re excited to implement it in even more creative and innovative ways over the next few months. Our goal in the longer term is to use this tool widely to help ensure that this offensive material is never uploaded to Facebook. And, because PhotoDNA has been so effective for us, we encourage other sites that allow photo uploads to use it as well.

ToS2014
I realize there is a quite the focus on ped's and teaching, but what about ALL the other ped's here? Guess in Thailand the 'others' are ok? Anyone who sees a child as a sex object should be sent to Syria for some retraining.
pauleddy
I see that the hang-em-high+castration mob are doing the usual circling vultures game. Paedophilia is an illness. Paedophiles did not choose to be so (although success may reinforce the illness). I don't condone it, but these people are unable to form normal adult relationships because many were abused themselves as children, or they have a fetish for children, which has a cause, the same way that people steal underwear from washing lines. It has been proved umpteen times that 1) more abusers prefer little girls, not boys, so we should not equate homosexuality with paedophilia...and 2) most abuse is carried out by fathers, uncles, family friends (normal people to you and me) BECAUSE they are in a position of trust and are able to engage with the children. This happens in Thailand, the USA, UK and everywhere. There are some children as young as 10 or 11 who are early maturers and who are very precocious, also. Castration is cruel, and is little used these days. Certain drugs and psychiatric therapies are more useful. There are no easy answers, although hanging people is not a solution. Songlaw
James used to be an English teacher He is American, American's do not speak English English so how could he teach it? A bit of a reach there, mate. Americans, by and large, as with Brits, could barely teach anyone to find their own <deleted> with two hands and a flashlight, let alone to communicate in a god-forsaken second language. However, there are native speakers in each country (among others) that actually have insight into the mechanics and cultural nuance surrounding language, and thus are invaluable to the overall learning process. While there are Brits who could perhaps teach circles around some Americans, the numbers as of yet, aren't overly concerning. Just for sh*ts and giggles, guess which "brand" of English is most often requested by students in the Kingdom?

Eddy Why are so many people of the opinion that castration is the answer? By the time the person has reached say 30 years old (or much earlier actually) this behaviour is a totally established part of their life. Castration may stop the guy getting an erection (which I guess is what the people are trying to achieve) but it will not necessarily prevent his ongoing lifestyle of child sex offending which will be very damaging enough to children, without the man's ability to, .... well, further detail is not required. And, what about the female child molesters? They are much less common than males but there are more than people think. Which parts do we cut off them? Long sentences for repeat offenders and preventative detention in many cases is the only answer, other than execution, which is a whole different question. Execution for crimes less than murder, encourage murder to remove witnesses on the "sheep for a lamb" philosophy.
