So basically any person that is using your internet connection could be the culprit. I have some knowledge about the investigation of issues like this and whilst what you say is absolutely true, you will notice that the report states the pictures were found on 'HIS' computer hard drive. Whilst I guess his wife could have stored them there, it seems rather unlikely, but that would be part of the further investigation. The identification of the user of an IP address will identify the person who holds the Internet account to which that IP address was allocated at the time and date in question and their location. Further investigation is necessary to identify the person downloading or posting the pictures, or whatever it is. It would be very difficult, for example, to identify a culprit in a bar that has free wifi access, especially one with a transient clientele. On those occasions further investigations would be necessary. CCTV may assist, or, without going into any great detail, there are ways of identifying specific computers or devices that access the internet and often that data is collected by the service providers. In this case, on the face of it, I'd chance my luck and say they'd got the right man and may he rot in hell, after the correct judicial process has been followed, of course and the Police have proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that they have the right man. I really wonder why I like Thailand anymore..... Every country has horrible people like this guy, but this place seems to have more..... Not so. The US is the largest market for child porn and a majority of the world's child abuse domains are in the US, so it would be logical to assume most of the predators are in the US, Mexico is also big in that stuff. Compared to the US, numbers of perpetrators in LOS is tiny and the number of farangs involved is very small. and then we have child predators and pedophiles with these pimps... Have you ever seen a pimp with a child for sale in LOS? I'd bet not. I haven't seen a pimp in Thailand since the Vietnam war, when they were peddling girls to US troops on R & R. We are given no clue as to the nature of the alleged uploaded photos. Let's hope that a bunch of British bobbies didn't fly business class half way round the world at the tax payers expense just for some innocent dreamy shots of some children bathing in a river. and no doubt the parties at Soi Cowboy every night. No, no, and no. Let me help you see why. Assume you see your neighbor walk up and PUNCH your other neighbor in the face. It goes to trial, and the assailant claims they acted in self defense, despite your testimony. He also adds that the two of you had a beef a while back about your barking dog which gives you the reason to lie. Jury finds there is not enough evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. Do you still treat the assailant with the respect of anyone else in your neighborhood? Or imagine being a victim of a rape and testifying against the rapist, only to see them walk away.. Hope none of these kids were further violated, other than the shower photos. In the internet "geographical" Fang would not be good place to hide. It has a relatively small number of Internet Service Providers (ISP), and hence easier for internet investigators to observe. However, Fang is on the boarder of Burma, and is home from home to Burmese and Hill Tribes children who become targets for these sick hunters. The Chiang Mai Police Division working on child protection uses many western resources, and with the arrest, for these same offences, last month of the America, James Craig Neumann in another district of Chiang Mai, I'm sure that the US department investigating/interrogating him, and sifting through all his internet details and connections, would, as reported, notified their Chiang Mai colleges about this guy, and hence his arrest. I agree with you entirely, but I don't think the police here are so interested in this type of crime. Take a walk along Sukhumvit and there is still child porn readily available. Not along ago I was at the Marriot Hotel. When I came out some guy approached me and asked if I wanted a lady. After a polite no, he asked if I wanted a man. Again I said "No thanks" to which he replied "A young boy or young girl?" The police could easily get these guys, but they are not interested. True that. I am sure it is only with regard to pressure from the US agencies, that this is pursued. All American laws apply to all US citizens, worldwide. And the justice department has nothing better to do, than pursue Americans worldwide, who are offending their sexual tastes. I am certainly not in any way supportive of child porn, or for that matter any sort of underage sex practice. But, I am also absolutely opposed to the long reach of the US government. That is ugly. That is heinous. We are talking about the same government that is pursuing growers of ganga, even though dozens of states have legalized it. The US govt. has been on a moral crusade for quite some time. And you don't even want to know what those same officials do in their spare time. Kind of an Eliot Spitzer sort of thing. Whatever your moral point of view is, and whether or not it degrades women, adults usually consent to taking part in that sort of stuff. Pornography or the viewing of it is also often seen as 'titilating' , laddish behaviour or otherwise trivialised. There's nothing trivial about what is happening to the children in the pictures in question here, nor can they give informed consent. They are images of child sexual abuse, and that's what it should be called. Just to be clear, it's not child 'pornography' its images of child sexual abuse. Normal people don't take "dreamy" or any other type of pictures of other people's children without their parents permission. I`m sure he wrote a book and was a tutor of Thai language, culture and a philosopher. I`m not into religion but was inspired by this man after reading about him in a Farlang Chiang Mai magazine how he managed to cross the boundaries between English and Thai culture and why I went to his talk intrigued by what he had to say. At the time I thought he was an intellectual a genius in fact. I think he had a lot of people fooled, just like Jimmy Savile, a person who was believed to be an outstanding member of a community, someone to admire.
