my 16-year son just got hired at McDonald's and gets $9 an hour. 40 times 9 is 360, times 4 is 1440. let's put in 25% tax rate:

around 12,960 a year....or $960 a year MORE than all these "teachers"

stand up for your dignity and go and make real money!!!!

don't be used by the world!!!!

If you are a grown man and the most you can earn is 30,000 a month, you have failed yourself.

No matter what country you are in. Epic failure.

Maybe the reason you are in Thailand is that is the only place (third world) in the entire world you can support yourself.

I would be ashamed to admit or tell anyone all I earned was 30,000 baht a month.

If you have failed to get an education or job training skills in your own country to make enough money to live in your own country, I sure as heck do not want you teaching my kid.

You have not even taught yourself how to make enough money to survive in your own land.

If you are that much of a rock how could you possibly teach anyone anything?

Thai teaching experience equals zero in the rest of the first world.

I speak English, I much be a teacher right?

How can so many "rocks" wake up one day and say to themselves, "Wow, I can make $1,000 a month in Thailand" as a teacher just because they can speak English, never once realized they have no education or job skill in their own homeland.

If 30,000 baht is big money to you, it must be a seriously sad existence.

I wonder what happens then Thailand turns the screws and all of the farang teachers are out of a job?

Will we see an increase in farangs standing around begging with signs "Help Me" homeless, hungry boo hoo

Hey Thanks guys. Obviously its the trolls who have called me and my wife and surroundings to be whore like so I won't hold that against this thred

Look I didn't give bad press about anyone westerner. Sure I laughed about anyone westerner working at 30k THB per month, as anyone would.

But to have spent years at a university to get a degree, and work LONG TERM in Thailand for a pittance is ...........!

Sure the schools don't do the right thing, they don't do the right education and the students don't care. Yep I have seen all of that too.

What I say is that a westerner with a degree working as a teacher in Thailand for 30k is not smart.

Here I wanted to work it out for you.

If you are married you need 400k or income of 40,000 per month. Hmm we only get 30k ...hmmm .Ae,, do on combination income and funds in the bank ..

How does that work? And tell me how you provide for a wife and home on 30k when you get around to it

As I said its a joke anyone westerner with a degree would work for 30k a month even taking into account dedication ...Its a Joke ...hahaha

The combination method is not available for marriage extensions.

Perhaps you can enlighten us great unwashed with some pearls of wisdom ? We want to learn from a master of life.

If you are a grown man and the best you can do is denigrate the job choices of others, then you have not only failed yourself, but failed as a human being.

Please bear in mind that for many people, (not only teachers), the salary they receive is not the most important factor.

Why do people do volunteer work when they receive no salary?

This mindset may especially apply to those who have already had a successful career, earned megabucks, and now wish to 'give back'.

Really Simon?

You really think this applies to the majority of teachers in Thailand that string themselves along just to get a TEFL just to have a job?

Give back what? When you have no qualifications to be a teacher and have no education or skill are you giving back or finding the ONLY possible job in Thailand that will give you just enough money to stay?

You need a reality check.

If you want to be a teacher so bad, why don't you get an advanced education and teach in your own country?

Did you grow up with a dream of being a poorly paid teacher in Thailand or was this an after thought to this is the only way I can make money to live in Thailand with no education or job skills?

You would have to be severely kidding yourself if your job choice is teaching in one of the worst educational systems in the world.

Farang teachers are on the lowest rung of the social status for a reason. They are the joke of Thailand. A big guise by the government to pretend they are educating the youth of Thailand yet the education system is no better now than it was 30 years ago.

All the "experts" in Thailand, products of Thai education and hackers take down almost 300 websites in one day.

I am sure you did not go over to Thailand for the benefit of the kids needing an education, armed with your TEFL?

Ask yourself this? What other job can you do in Thailand? The answer is none.

So if you think this is a job choice, you are only fooling yourself.

It is the only way you can survive and it is either 30K a month or less, or nothing.

So it is not a choice, because you have NO other job choices.

It is your only avenue for survival.

Aren't those the real facts?

Now, depending on your age, you have no social security or whatever from your own country, and all that experience with no education with land you zero jobs if you ever decide to move back. You are mortgaging any chance of a future.

A farang teacher doesn't earn enough to ever buy a house or car. That must be a real dream where you cannot afford anything.

Wisdom? Pretty simple. Do what 90% of the rest of the world does. Either get an education or a job skill that you can support yourself and your family with.

If Thailand ever shelves all the farang teachers, you will be up the creek with no paddle. Better believe it.

Save enough for a ticket home, you might need it some day.

This week I sent out eight resumes. Most were only to the best schools currently advertising in bkk. Two were sister Inter schools with sketchy reviews on the web. I only wrote those up for practice.

Four schools, the better ones have responded. All of these schools pay 45-60 to start minimum qualificationd perhaps capping around 120 for the cream.

There is absolutely no way any decent school, even top publics will attract the teachers they need for 30k.

Next, EP. This is extra work, may be a little or a lot but should pay bare minimum 35 in bkk.

The real trouble is plenty of oafs working for a visa and pocket money.

It is sort of funny though, schools hire shitty teachers then whinge about the quality and character. Well, you hired em!

I know of one school that can and does pay more than 35,000 for the starting salary with no experience, but the director always only offers 30,000 baht and the majority of people accept the 30,000.

Could it be... lack of sufficient critical thinking.....ngahh.... The Thai powers at be....following the rule to the Thai because that is what is says...

Teachers Western and Thai over 60 who can and still want to teach..rare, should be allowed to do so.. and blindly following the rule is another example of lack of Critical thinking.. Because it says so.. yet... for the Ummmh, administrative big wigs, the must have, they are allowed to stay on.. you know the type, sign in early ... retired on the job 5 years ago..milking it. as long as it is open.

Many of the nursing colleges...cap it under 30..starting teachers out at 25..
