Mr.Garunt said there are always downpours in Yala during October to December of every year. The situation often causes flash flood and mud slides. Learning from the lesson in 2005 when the problems occurred in many area, Yala officials have this year begun checking equipment to ensure effective assistance for residents when floods occur. The provincial officials have also drawn up both short and long-term preventive plans. In the long-term, the officials would build a dam in Grongpinang District and prepare space to retain water in the east at Baemoh <แบเมาะ> swamp and in the west at Janan <จาหนัน> swamp. The province will also dig a water-distribution canal to prevent floods in Muang <เมือง> district, which is a downtown of the province. The Yala deputy governor added in present, the officials have installed cautionary signals and investigated the amount of rain closely. For the potentially disastered areas, he ordered relevant officials to constantly report about operations.
