The Koh Kood Experience

Another 'Attraction' that I neglected to mention are the '2 Trees', on the way to the 'hidden' waterfall. Sai Yai is an old Makka tree and Chaieak is a large Banyan tree nearby. These trees are top secret, classified information, and I'm not supposed to tell anyone about them, but this is the internet where any idiot can post anything. tongue.png Seriously though, just a couple old trees, hardly comparable to California Redwoods, for example. Like the Huang Nam Keaw Waterfall, not really worth the time and effort, IMHO.

Wife and I went Kho Kood last July (2015) for 3 nights. We stayed at the A Na Lay Resort and we had a cabin, very close to the beach, for B 1000 p/n. google for hotel details. Also we spent a night in Trat and we stayed at the Rimklong Boutique Hotel which I highly recommend If you have to spend the night there.

I have never considered anything in the Gulf of Thailand to be eastern Thailand or part of Issan.

I always though of it as southern Thailand.

Am I incorrect?

Koh Kood is Eastern Thailand.

It's too bad that all the big mouths have to share where the nice little gems are. One of the best parts is being away from people when going to an island.

It seems like every person has a blog and must share their wisdom with the world. And for what? So people will give you 'likes'

On the other hand luckily the higher prices will keep most people like you away anyway.

Great photos and information, thank you! Last little undeveloped island in Thailand now. Let's see in 10 years ...

When I came from Singapore Christmas 1968, PhiPhi Island was still pristine. Now it's overrun by tourists, masses of tourists every day. Digital age made that possible.

That's 48 years ago! A lifetime. Of course its changed! I was in Koh Samet in 1908. It was pristine back then. Now its ruined. Digital age made it possible. We should all burn our technology and go to live in the jungle...

Maybe, and I mean just possibly, that is an unpleasant comment. I do find it difficult to take my holidays there, kind of expensive for me but I manage it. I'm not ashamed to admit and I don't see why you find it necessary to insult the person that wrote that. Do tell us please, that you never go to hotels that cost less than ฿6000.- a night.

Thanks for posting, just found the topic now.

Been to Koh Chang 2 times and loved it there, Koh Kood is something for the bucket list but I will likely be bored after 2-3 days as already mentioned, I am not a beach person, well I like the beaches but can't lay there all day long.

Lonely Planet books made Koh Samet popular, long before the digital age, i first went in 1987 on their recommendation and it was beautiful then B350 a night which included 3 meals a day at Sametville

Still a nice quiet resort at the end of the island, door to door from Pattaya about 4 hours travelling

My comment was in response to a rather unpleasant comment. Somebody took the time to give us a really nice insight to Koh Kood and this individual has to reply in a nasty way to an otherwise really informative and useful thread. He doesn't seem to understand that community forums are for sharing experiences and exchanging information.

I would not at all think of it as Southern Thailand, as that brings images of South of Chumporn and Phuket etc...

I also do not consider it Eastern as that seems to me to be Isaan...

I have always referred to places in that area as Eastern Gulf Shore...

Works for me anyway...

So you are not a beach person :-)

How is Kohkood now ? 24 hours water and electricity everywhere ? Any 711 ?

And what about Kohmak ?

Cheers.

Not that many people and even if it is busy the island is big so you dont feel it.

Its a bit more expensive than other islands for accomadation so you need to spend over 2000 for something half decent but its a great place.

Close this thread so we can try yo keep this place to ourselves ;)

I'm taking the Mrs there in Jan 2017 for her big 40 birthday, thanks for the pictures and information, I won't be doing waterfalls and such like as I'm not to steady on the legs these days, but strolls along the beach and some romantic dinners will fit the bill nicely.

Thanks.

Where to take the boat on mainland or koh chang?)

Is there any 1000 thb front beach or sea view resort anywhere ?

Where do you usually stay ? (even if it's not front beach).

Thank you.

What is crazy is that someone people still think in 2017 that anything in this world can be secret ! So crazy ! Stop living in your bubble, there is nothing that you know but that someone else doesn't know !!! But there are many more things that people know but that you will never know.

There aren't many bubbles left these days so maybe not so crazy. I suppose that when it is all concreted over, polluted, with private beach access and discotheques all night, you will think that that is ok. No you didn't say that but you might as well.

Thank you.

You can take a boat from Koh Chang to Koh Kood during high season.

See my Koh Chang Trip report

The ferry pier on the mainland is at Laem Sok.  Don't know about parking there but you could park in Trat and take a songthew from the Trat Bus Station.

I stayed at the Good View Resort on Koh Kood for 800, it's up the hill from the public beach and they had in-room WiFi.  I usually stay at the Beach Resort where rates are higher but I've seen some very modest beach bungalows renting for 900.

Hope this helps.

From the city of Trat it is about a 20 min drive to Laem Sok where you catch the ferry to Ko Kut.      There they have a secure parking lot.     We stayed at the A Na Lay Resort which was nice and right on the water for B1000 a night.     Google them for details.      Go back to my post #36 to see some pics of the resort.
