PATTAYA: -- Khun Chakorn, the District Chief, who instigated the raid on the Pattaya & Jomtien Bridge Club in South Pattaya on 1st February, has re-iterated that he intends to process the prosecution against the 32 Bridge players and allow a Judge to decide if anything illegal was taking place.

The news will come as a blow to those involved who were verbally assured by Police that the case would be taken no further. Passports of those involved were returned, although bail money is will being retained by Police as the case remains open.

The District Chief believes that offenses were committed in relation to the raid and a search warrant was issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court.

The warrant stated there were suspicions that offenses were taking place which contravened Section 8 of the Playing Cards Act of 1935 whereby excess numbers of playing cards were present in the room and Alcoholic Beverages were being served between the hours of 2pm and 5pm which contravenes the licenses held by the venue.

The only good that can come of this now is that this guy gets demoted when somebody outranking him steps in and orders the powers that be to cut the crap.

For a country so obsessed about face, they haven't a clue how to keep any of it.

I fear they are headed for a face debt crisis.

A number of restaurants were hit by I believe these same district officials here in Pattaya over the holidays. A rather big fine for selling alcohol in their restaurant between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. Easy money maker for them.

Is this bridge "club" a business or a private organized group of people who get together to play cards...is liquor sold at these gatherings...do they have a liquor license...do they adhere to the alcohol sale laws...do they also sell fags...they may have many questions to answer for.

I can only assume this is some kind of misguided attempt to save face........As a public relations exercise this guy seems determined to make a fool of himself.....he really should learn when to stop digging that hole.

He's on my Facebook...is he on yours?

Pathetic.A group of pensioners enjoying a game of bridge.

Why don't the police do something more worthwhile with their resources?Such as arresting the real Koh Tao murderer(s).

There is always a way to loose more face than you already have and still not realizing it's the whole country....

Quite possibly, but do you think running them down the nick and confiscating passports, demanding "confessions" is the right way of going about it?
