The bar did give the girls an opportunity to go to an ATM machine, fair enough.

When the other one tried to leave without anyone paying the bill is when problems arose.

It is actually illegal in Thailand to leave an establishment without paying the bill .

What exactly was the assault ?

The girls dont look harmed

Maybe they were physically stopped from leaving, which is fair enough .

Which has just reminded me, I still have an outstanding bar bill from last week end, really must go and pay it today

No but they were most certainly fleeced and the reason they didn't have enough money was because the gangsters running the bar jacked up their tab and then threatened them for not paying the fully inflated amount.

if you jump off a cliff , you cannot complain how far the bottom is . are you that shallow ? i think so ...

You don't walk out or scheme to walk out of a bar without paying not in thailand or in your country. Why her friend didnt come back from so called withdrawing money from ATM. Not every thai is a fool. Yes blame the thais and uphold farang status.

Ah the delights of the scam street of pattaya. Complete with its own private thugs to beat you up!

I'm Canadian too and unless all establishments in Ontario have changed drastically, as someone else mentions, give your head a shake and don't the actions of the victims sound classic and more suspicious than the suspicions that some kind of unlawful assault occurred here.

The alleged victim of assault being Canadian female sounds similar to a case of one trying to play the assault card because of bruising to her wrists from her ex, which only proved her guilt and exhibited that the real victim used only as much force as necessary in holding them to stop her commission of a crime and prevent his need for the use of potentially deadly force.

A very common trait of those people with their ability to gain sympathy through manipulation of the facts and present the perception of being a victim so some poor schmuck gets blamed. Don't they look and sound like poor innocent naive Pollyanna at a Thailand go-go bar that would also like to see Jian Gomeshi hang, for spurning their affections if given the chance when he was popular.

Well said!

^^^ It's possible they didn't realize the bill was getting that large. BTW how do two gals drink 5,000 baht worth of drinks?

Easy peasy ! In walking street, top shelf spirits maybe, doubles ? Maybe a couple a lady drinks for a bar-girl bothering them, after all we don't know their orientation (which I say in good faith). If they are visibly drunk, accidents can be made with the bin. It's easy to under-estimate a bin if your p*ssed and having a good time. Hell, I have two drinking partners (female) who I see once or twice a month down in soi 13/1, who with my blessing, can on occasions put away 10,000 baht between the two of them. Good drinking partners and a load of fun. And they are 45kg wringing wet, not two big falang.

The designated stay-behind should not have tried to leave, even if it was just to stick her head out the door. But what is curious is that a physical fight ensured. someone must have got abusive ??? I think I know where I would put my money on that.

There was an interesting question posted yesterday in TVF, where there was hundreds of follow-up postings during the day. The gist of it was, where falang women welcome in bars ? A majority said no. I added a comment that in the 1980's (I have suffered in the Kingdom for just over 3 decades now), in bars in Patpong and Soi Cowboy, bar managers discouraged falang women to stay. The patrons and bar-girls just did not want them in there. But please no postings about this topic, there was enough said on it yesterday, go look it up.

Just one other point, if I have a big afternoon with mates and don't want my bin to get out of hand, I will pay it and start a new bin. No surprises at end of day.

I think it is pertinent to mention it here.

Most guys don't want any farang women in the bars especially when they are there to escape them and to have fun with young sexy thai gals.

More especially they probably don't want aggressive dykes in the bars either.clap2.gif

No excuses for the security staff over reacting to this situation and they deserve some punishment, //

Maybe you could wait to know what really happened

before condemning staff of one of best Walking Street agogo ... unsure.png

According to the staff last night,

the Canadian girls started a fight with a dancer inside the agogo while waiting,

and the dancer had to go to the hospital for facial injuries. sad.png

Looks like she forgot to mention that to Police and medias...

Thanks for clipping my post - you made me look very one sided which is a little nasty on your part. Here's my original post in full to clarify for you and others:

"A 5,000 Baht bin at a gogo bar racked up by two female Canucks. That implies a <deleted> load of lady drinks bought for the girls. Or maybe they bought a few baskets of ping pong balls as well? facepalm.gif facepalm.gif facepalm.gif

Sounds like maybe they bat for the other team.

No excuses for the security staff over reacting to this situation and they deserve some punishment, but really, the two chicks should have had more sense than to rack up a bill that size and not have the cash to cover it. "

I based my comments on the information available at the time, which was that the second girl was assaulted when she allegedly left to find her friend. Based on that information I made the comment you quoted and clipped - I was actually more scathing of the two dumb Canucks for being stupid to get into that situation.

I know that gogo, and I know one of the service chicks there who used to work in Jomtien. I'm surprised anything untowards happened as it's one of the tamer and less pushy bars in WS. I've drunk their frequently and never had an issue.

So Mr Pattaya46, if you are correct and the Canucks started a fight inside the bar before this happened, then I think they are more stupid than they first appeared. If the bar is closed for 5 years (or at all) as another poster has said, then based on more up to date information than was initially published, this would seem to be very unfair and unjustified - that is assuming the Canucks were totally to blame by trying to leg it and starting the fracas as has apparently since been reported.

But once again, can we believe anything we see in print in Thailand to be totally factual anyway.

Equally, bars need to train their staff that the first response in these situations is to avoid physical violence/retaliation as best they can and get the cops involved as soon as possible to mitigate the fallout in their direction.

Anyway, naughty YOU for clipping my post which was unfair and unrepresentative of my entire post, regardless of apparent facts that have since come to light.

We can stop all the derogatory name calling as well please, no one has been convicted of anything and this is all conjecture based on a few lines of news report

A 5,000 baht bar tab is not hard to do. I've spent a "quiet" evening in Polo (back when it was open) and had a tab of nearly 5,000 baht myself. A service staffer noted my bin was more than her monthly salary. (On "party" nights I've spent a lot more.)

Like so many of these stories, we get one side and, as often as not, that may not be the whole story or even the correct one.

After all, how many female teachers would willingly admit that they ran up a tab in a go-go bar and then tried to skip out without paying ?

Maybe the bar should be looking at suing them for attempted theft and damaging their reputation.

This has happened to me a few times in he past 15 years in Pattaya.

I guess I was having more fun than planned .... Two gogos and one bar beer,

Never had any problem and requested a staff to go with me to the ATM. They were happy to escort me and my beer was waiting for my at my table.

Physical violence directed towards customers who fall prey to ruthless tactics (presenting padded bills after the customer has lost count and are inebriated)... is pretty much the norm here. Things will not change....so it is wise to insist that you "pay as you go". When going in for a lengthy stay, insist on paying, as each and every drink/round is received. Police will be of no help, when you get upset at the surprise bill (after a few hours of "enjoyment"). Nobody is going to vouch for you on your behalf.

I also prefer to have my bill itemized, and placed in a cup in front of me. Read the front, then flip it over and read the back. Common practices include charging the higher of two prices...for ladies drinks or misunderstanding the waitress when she points to a few other girls and asks you if you want to buy the one sitting with you another drink.

I don't like going to these places anymore.....it's just about buying attention, and never met anybody of any value this way. A hard and expensive lesson. Many bars are fun...these kind are not.

As a frequent customer of this particular bar (and other bars owned by the same group) I can tell you that this bar does not engage in Bill Padding (unlike some bars in Pattaya have been known to do).

In fact they use a computerised system where each time you order a drink, the bill is torn and a new one is printed, listing each and every drink you have ordered, and the current Total, so it is very easy to see how much you are spending.

I would guess that these two ladies, like the Ladies, and while they were enjoying themselves, they bought many lady drinks. The girls are very good at getting you to buy more drinks, but the bar itself is a very honest, well run, establishment.

They should have every right to stop a customer from leaving without paying (a rather substantial bill) even if some amount of physical restraint is necessary, which when it comes to dealing with drunken women, is sometimes the case.

To let her leave, would have been the same as you letting someone walk out of your grocery store with 5,000 Baht worth of Steaks under there clothes.

Also in the pictures I have seen, she did not look very damaged.

Here is what I see ...

Two people went to a bar and ran up a 5,000 baht bill.

They tried to skip out on it.

How do i know this?

Because they did not reach in their pocket and "come up a little short" .. they did not try to pay ANY of the bill.

The bar ... not being a home for wayward children .. insisted on being paid (Please ... is that a "This thing" ??? Really???)

One person left ... then the other tried to make a run ... was detained .. and got in a fight .. that they LOST.

Where in this story is the bar to blame?

I was a bartender, and let me tell you "Hey boss, i let someone drink all night and leave without paying" would have made me an unemployed bartender .. pronto presto! PLUS having to pay for that booze!

So where in the Thai Visa World of White Privilege is it ok to rip off a bar, and have people lose good jobs .. and PAY FOR IT?

Oh, I forgot .. they were White ... Bad Thai ! Bad Thai !!!

I wouldn't have paid the bill if I was assaulted and injured before I had the chance to. At that point they would have been paid in full (by blood) and they owe me money.

Bar managers know full well when customers are at the risk of going past their pocket money, but they keep playing along because they know at that stage they are too drunk to know what's going on and they will net more profit - quickly.

A responsible manager would require bar staff to ask customers to settle bills at certain points throughout the evening, but that will likely upset customers and send them out - and they know they can get away with intimidatory tactics if necessary to get full payment.

There are Tourist Police, City Hall Police and Soi 9 Police on the street each night and if either these ladies or staff had contacted them then it would be sorted quickly.

This kind of incident is a nightly occurrence.

Seems like they wanted to make a fuss about it all later and went to Soi 9 to see what they could salvage of their pride.

Security must hate farangs, loaded with cash, go go girls all over them. Probably can't wait to practice some kick boxing at the very first opportunity. Jealous pricks

Except these were females who looked like they were doing a runner!

They are still farangs. It says they were assaulted and that's all we have to go on. Reports of the bib following through on this kind of backs up the claim and any one who's been here for a few years knows assaults happen all the time

A laudable idea but have not expereienced its occurrence in the 26 years. They know the spending will slow or stop once they see the tally.
