This is just a drop of water in the ocean. Thousands of thai boys are being abused in schools all over thailand. Not only by teachers, but by other students.

There is a long painful road ahead for thailand, if they choose to open this can of worms.

We did it in the west. The churches, the teachers, the scout camp volunteers, the orphanagesame . It was an epidemic that we could no longer turn a blind eye to.

Good luck thailand.

Training?

Aaahhhh a MAN is guilty. Never stated it is a Thai man. Now if it was a farang then that would be the headline!

you realize this is a thai news forum, right? So it would be logical to assume that of otherwise mentioned, the article is about a thai person, no? I don't think on the USA they mention in every story that out is about an American, nor in Australian papers that it's about an Australian. Yet in most places if the story is about a non native, just like here in Thailand, they would mention it, no?

You are a low-info kind of person. Western media is sooooooooooooooooo biased its sickening.

If this guy abused 300 underage boys during the 5 years of his adult life,

that means he would have had to find a new boy every 6 days, no way on earth that could've happened.

It takes a long time to establish a relationship, I seriously doubt these boys allowed him to abuse them the first time they met.

Plus let's say of all the boys he was grooming he managed to get sexual with about 1 in 5, that means

he would've had to groom 1500 boys to get to abuse 300.

I'm calling bullshit on this.

Man confesses to 'seducing' 300 school boys,

.

That's a nice terminology in the headline.......any chance of changing Seducing---to Raping.....................coffee1.gif

Seducing kids is much more romantic sounding...

I'll bet if it was a farang they would have said he was word raping, molesting etc...

It's because most of them were willing participants.

Ug! evidence please.

You don't know Thai men/boys very well, do you?

So either share with us your superior knowledge and experience of Thai men/boys, or acquire the reputation of yet another TV lowlife.

Putdown rejoinders are not a substitute for facts and data.

While not attempting to excuse him any way, here's something to think about: the guy was less than 10 years older than his "victims" (how many of you can say that about your spouse?), and they weren't infants, toddlers or pre-pubescent children. They were sexually-mature teenagers no younger than some of the girls you sometime find working in bars that many of you undoubtedly frequent.

Good points! Still inexcusable though.

Exactly, well said, but it won't stop the paranoid brigade

This is a disease. It needs to be treated, although that is very difficult and with a high rate of recidivism. What is really disturbing is that 300 have suffered this (and some will go on to become abusers themselves) before the story comes to light. In part that comes from the reluctance for parents to engage in any kind of dialogue about sex, appropriate or otherwise, with their kids.

It's easy to crucify this guy but doing so will not make the issue go away.

If you can find it (appears to have been taken down from most free documentary sites), watch Louis Theroux's 'A Place For Pedophiles'. They can't be treated. Ever.

Often the case here on TV that when there is a news story about a man being charged with offences such as this, that there will be numerous posts calling for the accused to be castrated, tortured, executed etc.

Then there are often the few usual suspects that will be saying what about 'innocent until proven guilty' and 'what about his rights' or 'maybe there was a good reason' that made him do what he did, and generally being more concerned about the rigths of the accused than those of the victims.

Strangely the second group of comments seem to be completely missing in this case.. I wonder why that could be? It couldn't possibly be because he is a Thai and not an American or westerner could it?? Surely not....

He confessed that he did it,farangs usually deny it til they are blue in the face.

I think you will find that if it were in Australia and an Australian man was being reported about the news would simply say, "a man", but if he were a foreigner the news would report, "a (insert nationality) man" was found etc. I think what ever the country we would assume the man would be from that country. I could be wrong however...

Data to show that sexuality is more fluid in Thailand than in the West, and that males being serviced by other men -- except passively -- is almost universally "no big deal"? You need "data" for that? Really?

Yes you are right - he has apparently, admitted to abusing kids - which in my mind makes him guilty, and I hope he is punished to the full extent the law allows

However only a few days ago there was the case of the gross American guy who had been admitting and boasting about his offences on-line in FB along with having been found to have child porn on his PC - but that didn't stop a few people from claiming that just because he said he did it, didn't have to imply he actually really did do it... There was also the case of the guy who beat up his gf in the US and then made her walk on the street naked - he went to police station afterwards and confessed, but again there were those on here protesting his innocence.

I think the premise of my original post is valid
