dddave
If things start bogging down, not a bad idea to do an inventory of exactly how many devices are currently running off your connection. With the proliferation of devices using wifi: phones, tablets, TV boxes and even some appliances, it's easy to lose track. Might be more of a load than you expect. Just in my studio: my two phones plus my GF's, her tablet, my laptop, an Android TV box and an old laptop downloading torrents= seven devices running. balo
After I switched over to 3BB my internet has been very stable. Where I lived before we could only choose TOT , and that was a terrible experience.
hawker9000
Haven't been having any problems either. Just the usual "single gateway bogeyman" nonsense. TIT. Reliability and consistency just aren't a given and never have been. By even mentioning the possibility, govt authorities have created a new urban myth. I have had to switch VPN protocols, but I attribute this to service provider activities maybe not even having anything intentional to do with VPN usage. jacko45k
Having experienced problems in my office in the centre of Pattaya, I've done various speed tests, and all results from within Thailand are fine, but run a test to the UK or USA it is painfully slow rendering some sites timing out. May be a technical problem or ...... TRUE is our provider, and reported this to them to be told the standard gumf that they don't guarantee any speed no matter what the contract says but will pass it on to the technicians. Hopefully a temporary hitch and no more than that .... Yes I have True and am experiencing the spinning wheel in the evenings. They just sent me a flyer for Fibre internet which they ran up my street a few months ago....I don't see the point of getting to the bottleneck any faster! Inn Between
Had to take care of some things, so just getting back to this. I'm with TOT south of Pattaya -- Na Jomtien area Good to hear that most people are not suffering any chronic slowness, but instead it's probably just crappy TOT service. Fingers are crossed that the gov't's IT specialists won't be able to actually pull off their gateway plan and will be too proud to hire foreign specialists who could do it. Pib
TOT does excel at crappy service...or at least they did when I was with them up to around mid 2011...at that time True put cable TV/internet in our moobaan and I switched as did most every one else in my moobaan. Knock on wood (my head), I've been pretty happy ever since. Even during the great floods of late 2011 when I had up to 1.5 meters of water in my moobaan for a month the True cable TV/internet never went down....the folks on TOT ADSL lost their internet day one of the flood water arriving my moobaan as the TOT junction boxes at ground level were flooded/shorted out.. alocacoc
Speedtests are pointless when it takes 3 seconds till it starts to load i.e. a Thaivisa page or a Youtube video. The internet get worse every day.
Ks45672
i am on TOT and it sucks complete. I connected a Server in Oslo: Ping 420ms, download speed 0.60Mbps, upload 0.02 Mbps. That should be illegal in 2016 I would switch if possible
snowgard
That should be illegal in 2016I would switch if possible What is illegal? I don't use VPN!!! On http://www.speedtest.net/ you can change the server who will be connected. That's all. If you don't change the server the speed to a BKK server will be tested. Just tried some Oslo server with this speedtest.net. Dowload 8.18 Mbit/s, Upload 1.19 Mbit/s, ping 302 ms. Testing again showed 2 Mbit/s upload. ToT fibre in the sticks (Khon Kaen province). Quite OK and the ping won't and can't get much better. See here: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5132368650 Test again: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5132372359 To me it seems ever more clear that speed depends very much on location within Thailand. Densely populated with many foreigners or like me out on the village with very few internet users. Maybe I will complain in some years.
balford
No problems with 3BB Broadband that I've noticed, but being the original techno-dinosaur anything that works is a bonus to me... Bob A. Relaxed in Lampang
MJCM
The connection to international sites has improved a lot the past few days, before I couldn't even connect to my European Banks. Hope it lasts I am with TOT (unfortunately the only choice here except for 3G).

kekalot
trying to keep this story short but. I have True in Cha-am, 30 Mb/s down 3 Mb/s up, no problems with speed... (when it works) about 6 weeks ago or so True had their internet down for about a day, I called in to report it because otherwise it usually never comes back by itself and got a message that was saying that they were "upgrading services" and it should be back later during the day long story short, I started having issues with websites such as Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Steamgifts.com, Aliexpress and other websites a lot of other websites will not load or load very slowly if ever, a lot will stay stuck at Google Searches (blank tabs with address at the top). I have three computers, a tablet and a phone and those websites had issues loading on all of them, I even went downstairs to check with the owners who have a seperate connection and they were slow as well. doesn't matter if I used Chrome, Firefox, Edge of IE, always laggy and would not load half the time. to test, I used Chrome, installed the Browsec addon (proxy) and I can access those websites fast without issues -- note: I am not sure I would trust Browsec to do everything as I'm pretty sure using their "free" system they can see everything we do on the internet. so I use it only when the websites I want get stuck or won't load. if I disable the proxy on Chrome, the problems come back. no way I can get anyone on the phone line to understand that problem and I am sure that getting a tech and showing him right in his face what is happening would do absolutely nothing (I doubt they would understand to begin with) meaning, I am stuck running Firefox and when some websites don't load, I use Chrome with Browsec and 100% of the time they load. I tried PingPlotter on some websites I had issues with and all is green until it hits an ip named "SG-ICR-GS1-10GE.trueintergateway.com" then it goes in yellow with 300ms and end up in red with some 1000ms and never completes. I am not sure what they have done last month but none of this ever happened before in the last 9 months that I was here

hawker9000
I haven't been able to access my stateside webmail for years from most places in Thailand (there have been exceptions, but relatively rare). VPN has been the only way to do it. I've always just considered it a quirk resulting from Thai service provider incompetence in implementation of the national website blocking regime; and I'm sure their blocklist does nothing but grow over time. All you can do is find workarounds, but 'nothing to do with implementation of a single gateway.
alocacoc
If the submarine has caused the crappy internet, it's fixed now. My 3bb line works fine now. Once again, forget all the speedtests. It's about reliability, not speed.
