I Assume We're Suffering the Dreaded Single Gateway Now

Recommended Posts

I can't open the webiste http://www.interdiscount.ch

Nor on 3bb nor on AIS.

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com said, the website is online.

It's a Swiss electronic shop. Very strange. Can someone else try please?

No good on True either. Works if I VPN out of Thailand though. Maybe they're blocking Thai IPs for some reason?

trying to keep this story short but.

I have True in Cha-am, 30 Mb/s down 3 Mb/s up, no problems with speed... (when it works)

about 6 weeks ago or so True had their internet down for about a day,

I called in to report it because otherwise it usually never comes back by itself and got a message that was saying that they were "upgrading services" and it should be back later during the day

long story short, I started having issues with websites such as Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Steamgifts.com, Aliexpress and other websites

a lot of other websites will not load or load very slowly if ever, a lot will stay stuck at Google Searches (blank tabs with address at the top).

I have three computers, a tablet and a phone and those websites had issues loading on all of them, I even went downstairs to check with the owners who have a seperate connection and they were slow as well.

doesn't matter if I used Chrome, Firefox, Edge of IE, always laggy and would not load half the time.

to test, I used Chrome, installed the Browsec addon (proxy) and I can access those websites fast without issues

-- note: I am not sure I would trust Browsec to do everything as I'm pretty sure using their "free" system they can see everything we do on the internet.

so I use it only when the websites I want get stuck or won't load.

if I disable the proxy on Chrome, the problems come back.

no way I can get anyone on the phone line to understand that problem and I am sure that getting a tech and showing him right in his face what is happening would do absolutely nothing (I doubt they would understand to begin with)

meaning, I am stuck running Firefox and when some websites don't load, I use Chrome with Browsec and 100% of the time they load.

I tried PingPlotter on some websites I had issues with and all is green until it hits an ip named "SG-ICR-GS1-10GE.trueintergateway.com" then it goes in yellow with 300ms and end up in red with some 1000ms and never completes.

I am not sure what they have done last month but none of this ever happened before in the last 9 months that I was here

It's just too much FUD about this Single Gateway BS.

Trust me, when it's there you will know for sure...

I haven't been able to access my stateside webmail for years from most places in Thailand (there have been exceptions, but relatively rare). VPN has been the only way to do it. I've always just considered it a quirk resulting from Thai service provider incompetence in implementation of the national website blocking regime; and I'm sure their blocklist does nothing but grow over time. All you can do is find workarounds, but 'nothing to do with implementation of a single gateway.

If the submarine has caused the crappy internet, it's fixed now. My 3bb line works fine now. Once again, forget all the speedtests. It's about reliability, not speed.
