BANGKOK:-- A gang of Thai youths wielding swords slashed and killed a handicapped man in a Bangkok street Sunday.

The 36 year old was killed for daring to answer back when the drunks teased him for being a cripple, reports Manager Online.

The latest shocking Thai street violence was caught on CCTV and posted online.

Police called to the scene of the attack early Sunday morning initially failed to break up the vicious attack and needed to fire into the air before restoring order and detaining the gang.

Six men aged between 18 and 22 have been named and arrested.

Chok Chai police in the Lat Prao area of Bangkok had been alerted to the trouble and rushed to the Chok Chai 4, Intersection 69, area where the attack was in progress in front of a bread shop. A man was being hit with knives and assaulted with a brick.

They tried to break up the melee without success before shots fired into the air helped them arrest the gang who had earlier arrived on motorcycles.

Somkiat Srichan, 36, a man who delivered bread for a living and who had a leg handicap and walked with a limp, had suffered multiple knife wounds and injuries from being hit with a heavy object.

He was rushed to Paolo Hospital, Chok Chai 4, but died soon after.

The arrested men are Pirapong Yotsaponganan, 21, Patcharapon (An) Thatsana, 22, Monmanat (Toey) Saengpho, 22, Jatuporn (Beer) Chansopha, 18, Thek (Meik) Phongrasorn, 19, and Arin (Ter) Yotsaponganan, 20.

They told police that they had been drinking at a friend's home in Lat Prao. As they drove past on their motorcycles they saw a crippled man in front of a bread shop and teased him about his handicap and the name of the shop. The man was angry, they said, and answered back. Drunk and angry they then parked their bikes and set upon him with knives they had in their possession before police arrived.

Charges of assault causing death and carrying concealed weapons in a public place have been laid.

Unbelievable sad.png I can only hope that these guys will never seen the outside of a prison wall in the next 15 years. What a waste of life. What is goes on in someones brain to attack a single handicapped man in a group with Ninja swords.

Wow, making fun of a cripple and then attacking him. They'll have a long time in jail to contemplate their stupidity.

I'm not sure if violence is getting worse (many think it is) or are these things being reported more? Maybe someone who's been here a long time can help out???

Horrible. I do hope they rot in jail. Sadly, that probably won't happen.

In some jails they may even find they are the one with the broken leg or legs.

Completely off topic rant: why the heck is it soooo trendy here on TV to use the word "apologist". This word is hardly used anywhere else in the media! Mix it up a little please!!

Getting worse , far worse than 1980 when I first arrived ,but alas we have moved on , sometimes not for the better, back then Thai's never worshiped the rich either.

Limited vocabulary and intellect, it's still fashionable to use despite being massively passe, says much about the poster using the word.

I am not sure the international community would appreciate this type of incident in their media tomorrow , it will make a lot of people wonder as I am just where is the world going, this kind of happening in Thailand is very uncharacteristic.............................................coffee1.gif
