webfact Posted May 3, 2016 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Myanmar parliament is to rescind oppressive lawsNAYPYITAW: -- A new bill aims to replace the 1975 legislation that was used to oppress Aung San Suu Kyi and other pro-democracy advocates has been formally submitted to Myanmar parliament, according to The Irrawaddy.The bill committee in the lower House took to the stage on Monday to denounce the law enacted during Myanmar’s socialist era known as the Lower House Parliament Law No 3,1975 or the Law to Safeguard the State against the Dangers of Those Desiring to Cause Subversive Acts.Lawmakers of the legislative body which is dominated by Aug San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy have pledged to revoke laws that oppress Myanmar’s citizens and amend those that have flaws.Lower House speaker Win Myint said ar the legislative session that comments from the lawmakers on the bill are to be heard on Thursday.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/content/161905 -- Thai PBS 2016-05-03 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
