NAYPYITAW: -- Japan has pledged full support for development efforts and national reconciliation in Myanmar, said Japanese foreign minister Fumio Kishida in Naypyidaw on Tuesday.

“Japan will do as much as it can to help Myanmar with national reconciliation,” The Irrawaddy quoted the visiting minister as saying at a press conference. “We will cooperate with the Myanmar government to create a climate that will benefit both the people of Myanmar and Japanese businesses,” he said.

Mr Kishida’s statement of pledge of backing was welcomed by National League for Democracy chairwoman and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi. She said she appreciated Japan’s goodwill and generosity toward Myanmar.

The visiting foreign minister also hopes that Suu Kyi will visit Japan again.
