What's the best thing you ever did since coming to stay in Thailand?

Building a resort on the beach.

So your "resort" offers windsurfing, kayaking tours, snorkel equipment rental and other activities offered at resorts?

Or is it just a hotel?

In Thailand, whenever they build a hotel in the middle of a rice field, it's magically a "resort"

"left with a backpack and a briefcase..."

Briefcases are really handy for carrying around all the money you make in Thailand as an English teacher or "digital nomad", 555

best was my business and my 2 kids. worst, buying properties, will soon wipe out most of the gains i made with my business.

May I ask what happened with the properties?

bought and sold 2 houses and managed to break even. bought 2 condos off plan. been waiting 4.5 years, supposed to be finished at the end of the year. i dont want them and now pattaya is flooded with new condos. put down 1.5 mill. doubt i will be able to sell them, dont even know if i should pay the other 1.5 mill due on completion or walk away. about 2 years income down the drain. not the end of the world i suppose.

While living in patong, going to the orphanage and spending 4000 baht for basic needs of the kids, instead of spending it for myself.A lady escorted me to the

nearest Tesco and we bought stuff for the kitchen and the kids. Before I left, the ladies gathered the kids and they sang a Thai song to say thank you.

One of the best days, best moments of my life.

The OP notes in his opening about "best thing", becoming a member of ThaiVisa was one. Nobody commented on that! But I do have to agree with him.

ThaiVisa is both informative and entertaining. I wouldn't be without it.

While many commenting posts are conflicting and needlessly annoying, I am still in transition stage and being an avid reader, it has tremendously raised my awareness level to literally hundreds of possibilities.

Learning the Thai language.

True enough. Especially becoming a fluent reader.

I wouldn't have thought that a non-latin based, and thus completely alien language and alphabet was within my ability having not given a damn about languages while in school and uni, but hey, 10 years later here I am.
