I machined a fair bit of the stuff for my Triumph drag racer back in the UK in the mid '90's, and "pickled" it to stop corrosion. My ty mono's have magnesium brake plates and side covers and they are painted black. Natural magnesium normally needs some sort of protective coating - it corrodes like mad especially near water. Will recquire at a minimum a cdi and coil (70 quid) to just get running, and probably a stator re-wind. It will be rough, but doable and workable. I'll even throw the spare (now repaired) Yeller steel tank in for free.... Was out on 'Ol Yeller this morning. 45 mins is damn good exercise before it gets too hot. Watched (again) the Ryan Young training video yesterday, changed my tight turn style after taking in all Ryan told me.... Transformed my riding, using footpeg weighting and straight inside leg, bent outside leg, rather than relying on h/bar pressure and arm movement. Then took Climber over to local mechanic. Had him change front fork-seals and install dust caps & new neoprene gaitors. It took him all afternoon until dark, but prolly got it right. It's a Montesa 315 Cota - very very capable bike. More bike than you and me know what to do with! Worldwide = Montesa 315 Cota, Japan market only = Honda RTL. There's your answer; Jap import RTL. All spares, manuals etc search for Montesa 315 Cota. In fact if i'd bought that bike, i'd replace all the Honda decals etc WITH Montesa anyway. Just 'cos I don't like The Big Corporate Red H.... The kind of spoke with 2 parts and the turnbuckle in the middle. Tires: Rear is 2004 manufactured Michelin, checked & worn. Front is a trail tire not a trials tire. Spoke configurations vary, even between 1997 and 1998 / 1998 and 2000 Cota model years. Looks like a US shop can sell me one 3-piece spoke for about $10 + shipping. A new set of 36, from local Thai source would be nice. Wicked strong. Feed her a little gas and she goes! Feed her a lot of gas, dunno, papa not man enough to try. Comparison with the Yamaha YX-Z 135–>144(not sure)cc Climber. Cota high compression. Kick-starting requires a manly stomp, with things lined up just so. vs a smart little stab or maybe roll it forward a bit and bump the -Zed to life. Same with compression-braking on the down-clines. Cora, considerable vs. -Zed, minimal. The Cota seems to have a steeper head angle She wants to turn, not run straight down the trail as does -Zed. So, all-in-all, for running down a moderate twisty single-track, need to on-off/blip the throttle de Cota vs just cruZ along. Cota has strong brakes, quick-acting. Climber, not so much, the rear being especially sketchy. papa rode the KMK 15km loop twice yesty. First Cota then Climber. Burned 1.5 vs 0.6 liters fuel. Fuel capacity 2.2 vs ~3.2 (guesstimating) liters. [... Climber has 2.5x the fuel economy & 1.5x the tankage. so should have 3.75 x the range. Transferred B3404 to VR account Monday 10AM [2 days ago] and tires showed up at my door about 1PM today. Not bad. Will have my mechanic mount these puppies 2mor AM. My mechanic mounted the new tires B200. Checking out the date-of-manufacture stamps, front was manufactured the 46th week in 2017 and the rear, the 47th week of 2017.
