hocuspocus
I was talking to my sister a relative of her husband a retired RCMP and his wife are selling everything and want to move to either Thailand or Vietnam I suggested Vietnam and told them all I know about how Thailand is going downhill and backwards faster than a run away train.Had a friend and his wife visit 4 years ago ask about coming back to see again I also told him do not come here go to Vietnam.I told both parties do not waste your time in Thailand it is a shiit hole now. T.A.T. will be devastated when they hear this news, making a huge dent in Thai tourism. Tourist numbers will be up as always

impulse
Watch them get a pardon after 6 months. Sentence precludes parole: "have been sentenced to 2 years in jail, without the possibility of parole" 1) Parole and pardon are 2 different things. 2) The results are subject to appeal. It could go the other way on appeal. 3) The world won't know if these guys ever really go to jail or not, much less for how long.
klauskunkel
. "TAT would like to assure international travellers that this was an isolated incident, not targeted on any group of foreign tourists in particular. The situation was exacerbated by alcohol." let's also be reminded that the video of the incident was leaked like a week later after Songkran was over, this then got international news coverage, which in turn prompted the police to start an investigation... otherwise there would have been nothing, nada, zip! Finally let's also remember that the police vowed to go after the leaker of the video, because it was deemed 'evidence', knowing full well that without that 'leaking' there would have not been any case and therefore no evidence status to the footage to begin with. But, TAT of course is not reminding us of any of those bothersome details, they just tell us the incident was isolated - and that's because the cover-up didn't work. spermwhale
Watch them get a pardon after 6 months. Usually it is best to remain quiet and be thought of as a "fool" than to speak out and remove all doubt .................. Even if they did end up only doing six months I would expect those six months to be pretty hellish unless they are wealthy enough to pay for comforts and privileges. They don't look like hiso elites though. Ya'll did read the part that says "Without the possibility of parole" right?

Pattaya28
Not seen any reports in Thai press of a 2 year sentence Yes. Makes me wonder where this article was sourced. And I also wonder if the arrested thugs are the actual thugs that committed the violence. Are they "stand-ins" ?

oxo1947
I lived on Koh Phangan for 5 years and saw this a dozen times; Thai men/boys always attack in groups, it's like they never heard of a one-one-one deal or they are too wimpy to engage someone on their own. Once the punches and feet start flying their spineless buddies start in and it becomes mob rule, usually 4 or 5 or more guys against one hapless, usually drunk farang. The name for a female cat comes to mind, I hope these clowns get a taste of their own medicine in the monkey house. Yeah you're correct, back home our juvenile delinquents always fight to the Queensberry rules. Especially when they are beating up old age pensioners.............. dotpoom
Watch them get a pardon after 6 months. "been sentenced to 2 years in jail, without the possibility of parole." Unlike others on here, I think a very minimum of 5 years without parole would have been more in line, the attack could almost be described as attempted murder because of it's severity. Junkyarddog
Double standards again. Cant understand how these guys have to do time. No criminal record. They admitted to the crime. As you all know in Thailand when they admit their guilt the court will half the sentence. They do this here even when they dont need the sudpects confession because the police already have enough evidence for a conviction. Still the court will half the sentence because of a confession that wasn't needed. And then no prior record so the sentence is suspended for two years. What happen here. That's right peons and farangs have to do the time. Earlier in the week Jatuporn received a suspended sentence for his crimes. How many does that make for him. Girl kills mine people 28th her car and nothing happens to her. Goes right back to driving witout a license. Girl in Chiang Mai runs over three people and kills them. Isn't even charged for their deaths. Pulls a two year suspended sentence for DWI only..

allyoops
Two years is better than expected ,however in my opinion anyone kicking someone in the head ,particularly when down ,should be charged with attempted murder .In this incident the lady was viciously kicked in the head when down and could quite easily have been killed .The two males were also kicked when down .I am glad they got prison but to me the sentences are light ,the pathetic cowardly scum who kicked the lady in the head when down should have been given at least 5 years . You think thew scum who kicked the woman in the head when she was already down and could quite easily have killed her should not be locked up .Something wrong with your thinking .No punishment gives the go ahead for these pathetic cowardly scum and others like them to carry on taking out their rage on tourists .They got off lightly .
