"Undesirable Aliens"???.I am sure he will shift his wits to Cambodia or Laos now.<deleted> is wrong with these guys? He could have just travelled around ASEAN to renew his visa instead of breaking the law unless he was completely off his rockers from the day he landed.

Obviously he is one of Britain's finest as stated above by another brit?

How much is a cheap ticket to UK he can borrow from family its fairly cheap. Chiang mai seems OK but Pattaya seems to be a violent unfriendly place for a foreigner. Not quite so keen on Thailand after what I see on TV I thought Philippines was a dangerous place but its nowhere near as violent for foreigners as Thailand.

Thailand is not that dangerous. It just depends where you go and how you act. All places can be dangerous under the right circumstances

I've never felt threatened in Thailand....never. I don't hang out in bars in the early hours, or hire whores, or use drugs, etc. Or even behave unusually on Walking Street. Maybe if you do, or feel it's a dangerous place, it's the company you keep, or activities in which you engage?

Overstay BS.

Who cares. coffee1.gif

Some real nasty crime out there, BIB,

go sort it out, its right under your nose facepalm.gif

I'll wager, you are the lot who complain so much about illegal aliens in your own countries. Get a grip and use that bit of mass between your ears. Overstayers are violating the law, period, no conceivable argument. Overstay is a haven for ne're-do-wells--one group may have neither the money nor the respect of law to comply and another group may be attempting to hide from something. The misinformed of you who claim overstay hurts no one, simply have no clue; the fact many overstay is one of the reasons immigration regulations and enforcement are getting tighter for all of us. Go ahead, further confuse your brain and do as your name suggests.

I'm curious....

Do the Police allow an overstay to return to his room/home to gather personal items or he arrested, jailed, sentenced and escorted directly to the airport?

Does he have to return to his home country or can he fly to another Asian country?

If you are picked up on overstay you go to Police detention or if picked up by Imm straight to IDC.

You may get a chance to sort out your stuff once everything is decided by Imm/Court or whatever.

You are returned to your own country and you have to pay the fare yourself. That can be difficult as once inside you have no real way of contacting anyone to help you.

You stay in IDC until you have the ticket home, not to another country, home only.

Once the ticket home is obtained you are taken to the airport and you might get the chance to drop to your rented place or whatever and grab some stuff but that's about it.

...the irony...and hypocrisy....is that hundreds of thousands come from one of the border countries.....and live...and work here....without 'standard' paperwork....

..not to mention the fortune any 'western' foreigner has to pay every year for the 'privilege' of staying here...

ha ha what do you mean "well done", so they caught one, there are thousands here, total incompetence, just set up a booth in walking street for a start that should catch a few hundred.

They have done this. I don't know many expats that go to the tourist areas

One of England's finest no doubt...enjoy those Blighty winters for the next 5 years tongue.png

What makes you think he has to stay in the UK?

Exactly! As long as he has money he can go anywhere. Cambodia is not too far away and the weather is nice there to.

The truth is that if you don't have Family Ties in Thailand, being Blacklisted here for 5 years is not going to hurt the violator very much at all or a big deal. Some Oil & Gas Worker on a 28/28 who comes to Thailand for a piss-up until his next job could care less if he gets Blacklisted. He will just wait out his time in another country and place like Cambodia.

So the questions arises that if you are not targeting the vacationer who comes on a 90 Visa and stays 120, or the Oil & Gas Worker with more time off than normal, who are they targeting? I would like to believe it is illegal workers but it doesn't seem to be the case. I don't read much about Police doing a raid on factory workers checking for working papers, but they sure seem to hit the bars a lot and Walking Street.

Or is it someone who is doing criminal activity, like drug smuggling or pushing drug? Seems to be it is an better idea to catch him at this, and also catch his contacts then just kick him out of the country. Personally I don't see Overstaying tightly linked to crime activity or breaking immigration laws. No more than normal anyway.

I think it has more to do with a tourist or visitor coming here, and deciding he wants to stay longer, but finds it difficult to do that without having to leave the country for a day. So if they made staying longer easier, then I believe many of the Overstays would disappear. Many countries have 6 month Visa's.

It may not make news but factory raids definitely happen. Just more chance to pay the on-the-spot fine in those situations I guess.

Where do these people get money from to survive those many years? I know 2 Germans and it was just about selling drugs and pimping.

Guys like that are the ones causing the problems for the rest of proper tourist here. 5 years jail as example and then 5 years banded to teach everyone a lesson.

Not everyone is tied to a desk 9-5 or even has the need to work at all. And not for iligitmate reasons as those that your friends had.

Quite right, there is so much real crime under the BIB's noses BUT this was immigration that picked him up not RTP

Are immigration officials not also policemen?

"after they witnessed him behaving oddly." I wanna know what exactly that comprises of? Did he walk a "John Cleese" funny walk? Did he quack like a duck or pick like a chicken? Did he dance the Polka in the middle of the street? Just so I know what to avoid doing not to get stopped and harassed by the men in brown.....

No, just walking up Walking Street in a straight line avoiding the bars.

All the more reason, time and money to get your Visa's sorted out.

You may not get caught today, tomorrow or next week but it's highly likely that your going to get caught. Things are on the change here.Trust me when you have a 'Banned' and 'Deported' stamp in your passport, it isn't as easy as some may think to just go and travel where you want. For a start, it is highly unlikely he will ever get an ESTA to travel to any US Territory. That Ban and deported will now stick with him for life. Not clever I would of thought when your only in your 30's.

It all depends on where you live. I live in rural Khampaeng Phet where the nearest 7/11, bus stop/ restaurant is 6km away. I don't consider it dangerous at all. Pattaya and Bangkok are also fairly safe if you know where to go and more importantly, where NOT to go.

and what not to do.

What makes you think he has to stay in the UK?

Probably been blacklisted from most countries.

Grow a black beard and you won't be blacklisted from the UK, they will even rectify any complaints you make.

There are so many ridiculous assumptions on here that I can't pick one out to start with!

But, to summarize, up to now, the good and the great amongst TVFM's have concluded that the individual must have been carrying out illegal activities (apart from a poultry 3 months overstay, hardly crime of the century), he had sufficient funds (and other information) to obtain a METV from the UK, he looked odd as he may have been sober on Walking St, etc.

When in fact none of you know anything about the guy, or his circumstances, apart from what you've read on a half baked news report!

Maybe he is flat broke and just took a chance. But its not the crime of the year is it? A little bit of jealisy here I think ' I payy dues, so should he' kind of thing. He was overstayed got caught will be sent home big deal a few days in the nick nor nice but not life threatening either. He will go home start his life over. Not too old get a job save up and go somewhere else.if I was illegal I would not frequent a place where immigration keep watch was a bit dumb but hwy so what

It is people like the overstayer who make things harder for the majority of ex pats over here in Thailand.

They should keep him in the monkey house until someone comes up with his plane fare home.

I can confirm that there are factory raids.

My missus used to work in a clothing factory in suburban Bangkok & the place was raided during nightshift & the whole floor was lifted, Thai & non-Thai then loaded up into wagons off to the copshop.

She said the girls had a right laugh as most were Thai & they knew that it was just a shake down until the boss turned up to pay his dues.

She seemed to see this as perfectly normal behaviour, not right just normal.

They still got their wages for the lost shift.

Mr Love illegally overstayed by over three months. What's not to know?
Thank you for selectively only quoting part of what I wrote.

Since when, did a 3 month overstay anywhere deserve being blacklisted for 5 years, especially when no other more serious crime had been committed (think about this one before trying to answer)?

What you actually know about the exact circumstances or outcome of this case are zero!
