Fatigue from Low Testosterone or just fat

Hi

I'm 30 years old and have been pretty fatigued for the last 2-3 years and just gaining weight. When it started my bmi was 25.7 and now it's 30. In the beginning I had enough energy to exercise by running a few times per week. The last year there's been no exercise.

I recently did a Testosterone test which came back 386ng/dl (12.2nmol/l). Doctor said it was still in the range but looking around the average values for people my age its always around 600-700.

Does anyone else have values like this and is around my age?

What I am wondering is if it's the non-exercise and weight gain causing the low testosterone or if it's the low testosterone causing the lack of energy and weight gain.

If anyone has some tips about a clinic in Phuket or somewhere I can go to check more please let me know. Since the hospital just says the levels are normal since their test specifies the range as 280-800ng/dl.

Thanks

You didn't say anything about your diet. There's always a reason. A cause and effect. Eating healthy will give you an enormous boost in energy, especially in the beginning. It may even help you start working out again.

I recently went from only eating burgers, tacos and kebabs to eat oats with milk and berries in the morning, some fruits a few hours later, some grilled chicken with steamed rice and vegetables, drink a protein shake after that meal, eat some fruits a few hours later, and a little bit oats again to fill my stomach a couple of hours before sleep. There are lots of alternatives, but this is extremely effective for me, and it's very tasty and very affordable. A large pack of oats with cost you less than 45 baht and will last for about a week. I can also remind you oats will make you feel stuffed for a good while, which should help you if you want to drop some weight. You may go for other alternatives, but stay away from the words fat, fried, sugar and salt, and go for foods with little calories and much proteins, and other things your body will be happy to get.

While this isn't directly injecting testosterone into your body, getting good values elsewhere in your body may give the body what it needs to naturally produce testosterone. Cause and effect usually triggers a domino effect.

That's my harmless advice. For any other advice you should go to doctors and specialists. Also, if nothing works after some months, phuket and pattaya are boost havens. You can easily find testosterone at pharmacies. Just be honest with a doctor and say you will go for a testosterone cure since nothing has helped and ask him for healthy advices, and he will most likely tell you everything you should know.

The last thing the OP should consider is taking testosterone shots at age 30. It will shut down his own production, which could leave him worse off than he is already. It can take quite some time to kick start production once shut down and it could even cause permanent impairment.

Lack of exercise and fat gain can slow down testosterone production.

The OP is suffering from a "vicious circle". He has to break the cycle. fat>tired>more fat>more tired. When you're feeling lethargic all the time it's hard to break the cycle.

Something started the cycle, but I don't think it was low testosterone. It could be a bad diet. It could be allergies. It could be any one of hundreds of things.

I would suggest a full blood panel: Liver function, kidney function, Lipid profile (cholesterol, triglycerides etc), CBC, and most importantly, blood glucose... fasting. Abnormally high blood sugar can leave one feeling lethargic... and it's also a common cause of fast weight gain.

Thanks for the answer. Did a full blood panel a while ago. All was normal except cholesterol and triglycerides (duh).

Glucose 90mg/dL

Cholsterol 225 mg/dl (high)

Triglyceride 246 mg/dl (high)

HDL Cholsterol 39 mg/dl (low)

LDL Cholsterol 137 mg/dl

TSH 3.6 uiu/ml

CBC too many values but all normal :)

BUN (Kidney) 12 mg/dl

Maybe your dopamine level is low. Consult a special doctor for men and do a full screen blood test.

Well yeah maybe heh. But you can't actually test for that can you. Except just taking Wellbutrin and see what happens.

The main thing there is your glucose is good, at least at fasting level. That's always a relief. ...also the thyroid is working ok. Have you ever had blood sugar levels tested after eating? An HbA1c test is also a good idea because it gives you an average blood sugar level over the last 3 months.

The slightly elevated triglyceride and cholesterol is probably from too much fat in your diet combined with lack of exercise. A bit of exercise could fix that.

The search continues...

Yeah i've done testing at home after eating for a few days. All in the normal range. Never even close to pre-diabetic. In terms of diet i don't actually consume alot of fat food. Maybe like 1 time per week. In this case I can only think beer is the culprit. If it (sugar content , calories etc) can affect cholesterol.

You said you used to run. Perhaps the heat is killing your enthusiasm by sapping your energy. I now row at home with fans and aircon. You can't get much done in the 30 C plus heat.
