EU referendum: BBC forecasts UK votes to leave

I'll raise a glass or two tonight.

Time to put the great back into Great Britain.

What a bonus - Cameron has gone!! What is worrisome is that we could have Laurel (AKA as Boris Johnson)) and Hardy (AKA Donald trump) leading two of the worlds most powerful and influential nations!!

And that would be the fault of the Chamberlain-esque intellectual liberal elites who fail to acknowledge the clearly stated goals of Islam, and significant progress toward those goals that have been made in recent years throughout Europe and Great Britain, with the USA not far behind in falling to the invasion of Islam.

I am absolutely gutted about this decision to leave.

Firstly this should never have gone to a referendum. To allow ill-informed individuals to vote on such a complicated matter was always going to be a mistake. With very little economic reasons to leave it was always going to come down to emotion and the scare mongering of the Leave campaign meant that Bridget and Geoff in Sunderland thought the UK was going to be overrun by immigrants and voted accordingly. Cameron has royally <deleted> this up and must now resign. His fear of Nigel Farage and the racists in his own party forced the UK into this and now everyone will pay the price for his conceit. Also expect the Scottish nationalist to insist on another referendum as Scotland voted overwhelmingly to stay and will now insist on independence. And being Scottish myself, I hope this time they get it.

It’s done now and as usual life will go on but why this even got to this stage will be questioned for generations to come and the consequences felt throughout the whole of the UK for many, many years.

as someone else stated on this forum before: this is a blatant and convincing display of the short comings of 'democracy'.

giving a bunch of bald - headed old - timers the opportunity to destroy the dreams and ambitions of the young people who will shape our nations was the biggest <deleted> - up in british post - war history.

Have you given any thought to the fact that those "bald-headed old-timers", and the millions of their mates who died beside them in WWII, are the reason why you aren't speaking German right now?

here we go again...

no discussion about europe without someone mentioning the war.

i speak fluent german, i am just not permitted to use the language on this forum.

and - honestly - what has that got to do with brexit?

if anything, your post just supported my argument. you are old? you will probably die in the near future?

what right do you have to impose your opinion on the generation of people who's taxes are financing your pension?

EU unfavorability is even higher in France & Greece (talk about a "negative contribution"...) than it was in the UK. Spain, Germany, the Netherlands - all not far behind! You could make the case that the outlook for the EU in the wake of this is actually rather bleak! The "out is out" pronouncement out of Brussels (EU Commission President Juncker) doesn't bode well for a friendly parting, and might end up leaving a certain amount of lingering animosity among the parties. But some among the remaining members may come to decide the UK got it right... And I actually think another referendum on Scotland - more likely successful this time - could have certain unpleasant ramifications for some other countries in Europe as well...

That vacuous "cherio" may end up sounding even more ridiculous than it does already.

It is interesting that it's pro-business that voted Remain while more agricultural and older people went the other way. Reminds me of when Switzerland had a similar referendum (to join or not). Zurich and main business cantons said yes, French speaking, Bern Basel etc said no and the no's won it.

There was then talk of doomsday for Switzerland as well. Didn't happen though. The CHF is practically on par with the Euro (1.08, last I checked, last week)

This is part of the reason why I point to the Muslim invasion as motivation for the "leave" voters. The "ordinary working man" neither fully understands nor cares about macro economics. He cares about the safety of his family, and the preservation of his way of life. While intellectuals preach the philosophy of "open borders" and "one world", the realists who work for a living see the injustice of Sharia Law and absolute suppression of freedom of religion (as well as so many other freedoms suppressed by Islamic rulers).

So, while the article atop this thread, as well as most of the posters here, have focused primarily on the economic issues and impact of the Brexit vote; I must ask again, if the deciding factor in the outcome wasn't the Muslim invasion!

You sir are a racist and therefore your views and comments are not welcome in a civilized debate. There is no Sharia law in the Uk and there never will be. This illusion of a muslim invasion is exactly that; an illusion and fortunately sane people with a proper and respectful perspective on matters are here to tell you where to get off.

And you, sir, have every right to tell me that you disagree with me and my sociopolitical beliefs. Now, try doing the same to a Muslim fundamentalist. Then come back and tell us how that went for you.

finally FREEDOM, ,it s historical day for all nations, thank you all Brits, bye bye massive immigration, bye bye Turkey with its 90 million people, bye bye the criminal gangs of eastern Europe, if EU leaders wanted peace in the world they should have supported Assad and Russia and not side with the terrorists.

GREAT BRITAIN will survive and become stronger it sets the example for the rest of us, time for a change.

There is absolutely no way the UK is going to stop immigration, so many industries have become completely dependent on them, expect immigrants from poorer countries in the future.

Are there any poorer countries than Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Syria, Libya and African nations because these people are already in the UK and either working, claiming benefits or illegal immigrants.

The UK will not stop immigration it will be selective and allow people who are needed in the country just like those here who are working in Thailand.

I neglected to point out the fact that "Islam" is NOT a "race". So please try to express yourself more accurately when leveling insults at people.

my gut feeling is, gentlemen, that the exact opposite will occur.

your 'great britain' will split apart. scottland will separate and re - unite with the eu. what will happen to london, the financial hub of europe?

what means do you have to make you great, (again?)?

and apart from that, given the magnitude of this event, the margin of 'win' over 'loose' is way too slim. there will be a lot of disgruntled brits having to live with and suffer from this short sighted decision.

Who cares about Scotland, Leaving the EU woz the right result. Get rid of all the illegal immigrants who are living off our state. And close the borders to these Muslims an other wanna be terrorists.

Illegal immigrants are our problem, they have nothing to do with the EU, if we couldn't catch them in the EU why would be able to catch them when we leave?

Muslims tend to come from outside of the EU, the majority of new immigrants being dependents of existing UK citizens, absolutely nothing to do with the EU, 100% British immigration policy, and expect more of them to make up for the loss of immigrants from the EU who many sectors depend on for labor, and expect more from places like Ukraine, Belarus and further afield, do not expect a reduction in immigration, just expect a change in demographics.

Why do you think the exact opposite will occur?

London is one of the strongest financial hubs in the World, do you think Europe will say "no more" and shut the door? Seriously? And then you think London would crumble into dust? And the huge amounts of trade between Britain and the EU, that will all just stop will it?

You are not thinking this through my friend.

To be truthful i wanted to stay in but I knew that if we didn't we could survive and potentially thrive with much greater control over our finances, borders, trade agreements, employment law etc..

What makes you think the EU is the centre of all that is great? Do you think the EU is the only way forward?

I can see a different future to the one you predict. I can see the EU coming under enormous pressure to stop dragging its heels, to stop with the bureaucracy and to move forward and reform before it falls apart. I can see more disruption in the EU and more member states actually pondering the possibility of exiting the EU. I can see member states becoming nervous about Germanys increasingly dominate roll within the EU and a fear that it will dictate and bully smaller states.

I think the idea of Europe is brilliant, I think the execution right now is flawed and does not work. I had hoped for reform, I had hoped that Britains referendum would shake it up and speed up the process and that Britain would stay in, but there we are.

Time will tell what will happen,

It has always been our choice to accept immigrants from Albania, Syria, Libya and African nations, why would leaving the EU change UK border controls that the EU has never had any control of? There are actually people deluded into believing that the EU has opened our doors to people from outside the EU. There is already a points system for people from outside the EU, do not expect a change in that respect, just more people from the poorer countries you listed, we will need them to make up for the losses of immigrants from the EU.

Both my pension (from 20 years with The Boeing Company), and my Social Security income were paid for by me. In the case of Boeing, by my contribution to their very profitable business during my 20 years of work there. In the case of Social Security by over 40 years of paying taxes into that system. As for me "right" to "impose my opinion" on others; I have no such right, nor do you. I do, however, have a right to express that opinion publicly in most countries of the western culture. ... Well, unless, of course, I speak out against liberal and socialist beliefs. The leaders of those philosophies would, given the opportunity, totally silence all opposition.

You're right Manfred, what do we have left after 40 years in the EU?sad.png

dear andrew65

i don't think it's entirely justified to blame the downfall of the british greatness on it's eu membership. some other eu countries have done extremely well at the very same time - and not at britain's expense.

what happened to your premium brands, the take - overs by the germans and indians - is exactly what is happening in australia right now.

complacency, resting on one's laurels, believing one to be too good to fail, not investing in research, not looking forward but wishing for 'the good old days' to return. and nothing will change that unless you all change.

Erm, Britain is one of the World leader in r&d in Science and technology. It is still one of the worlds largest exporters despite the deficit. Yes it has lost a lot of manufacturing to the Far East but hasn't everyone?

For the brands i assume you are simply referring car manufacturing? Right? So is your whole opinion based on this?

Do some research first my friend. Your opinion is based on bar stool logic and unfounded sentiment.

Hmm, Maybe we should rearm and invade Germany first this time?

The old geezers left a bad inheritance for the Britain's youth. Silly old people.

HOW AGES VOTED
(YouGov poll)
18-24: 75% Remain
25-49: 56% Remain
50-64: 44% Remain
65+: 39% Remain

Hopefully the EU stand strong and also make needed changes to it's organisation. I'm sure EU will take all the best Britain youth inside, while leaves the elderly to UK. Fortunately there is no need to build a wall between EU and Britain.

Haha, you think young people are better able than older people to judge on 'remain'?

Those who have hardly any life experience vote for remain. Nuf said.

Cherio Brits, without your negative contribution the EU has now a lot more money to spend on countries in real need. No more rebates, farm subsidies etc. for leeches. Hurray.

DELUSIONAL and obviously no clue

Yeap. There are always a few...

'Maybe he should have a look at this...

A lot of my European friends would like to do the same, the EU is a sinking ship and has been for years, anything between 5 and 10 years before it finally goes under.

Regarding farm subsidies the UK wanted to scrap them but it was vetoed by France, have a look at what they leech out of the system Erik!

Next on the leave train? Denmark and The Netherlands maybe? Quite a lot of people I know in those countries are very anti EU.

The pound is now 48.7, another week and it will be back at 52.

Interesting to see that the other European stock markets took the news a lot more badly with significantly bigger drops than the FTSE.

As you say, this 'lemming' approach that these money institutions habitually prescribe to will soon subside and everything returns to normal - they are a bunch of 'easily spooked' jokers!!

I see that spokesman for the top European nations are angry with Cameron for calling the referendum to stop the Tory party from disintegrating and they are not sorry that he has gone.

Brexit is more a case that Europe has lost the UK and not that we have left it!!

The UK will be hit hard with economic turbulence. They will need to hold fast and weather a horrible storm.

But....

What's left of the EU utterly will disintegrate into a gasping shrieking socialist mess.

The Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands will now exit very quickly and restore their sovereignty and economic self control.

The UK will eventually arise stronger, more self reliant and if anything a greater world power.

There are people who genuinely believe that the EU is at the root of all our ills, and that by leaving it we'll suddenly have all this money! We'll put the Great back into Great Britain! The recession is over! Of course that's what's going to happen especially with intellectual heavyweights like Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson leading the charge, what could possibly go wrong?

And as usual Scotland gets shafted by thickos south of the border. Cheers guys.

huh.png

Well, Scotland has its chance to be independent and they chose to stick with the UK. So who are the thickest thickos? The thickos in the England or the thickos that chose to follow?

I said " two of the leading" nations - factor in our history and this is justified.

How amusing that you measure the strength of a nation in terms of the number of war machines it possesses. Say's a lot about your mentality.

Firstly I don't believe multiculturalism works. Just look at the vote today,. The Scots, N.Irish and many Welsh want away from England and we are about as close to the same culture as you get. Live in the Middle east and you will have a greater understanding. They do not work. The UK was and is becoming a country of to many different cultures that could not mix. before the you are racist brigade jump on, no I am not. It is an observation that I have seen and many would agree.

The working people of the UK voted to leave and that's because they see immigration as a huge problem everyday in daily life.

EU was conceived to prevent the far-right from taking over - now "England" has welcomed them with open arms - reminiscent of 1930s Germany - and we know where that went.

I beg your pardon. It is the elites that have continued the EU ideas from the Nazi's. It has nothing to do with the far-right, on the contrary.

The New World Order is a socialistic Marxistic idea, started already befor Hitler and afterwards blown-in new life by Prins Bernhard (a Nazi) from Holland with the Bilderberg group.

Reboot please.

From a personal point of view (being Aussie) I liked the outcome, didn't think the UK population had the balls to vote for such radical change.

Even more importantly for me was the knee jerk reaction of the ASX and world stock markets. Spent more $AUD in one day -BUYING- than I have ever done. Saved some for Monday as well just to see if stabilization does not occur over the weekend and more bargain opportunities arise.

IMHO it won't take too long for the GBP to recover.

So what's the plan this time? Subjugate Africans and Asians at gunpoint and steal their resources? It's the only thing Britan has ever been "great" at. Well it worked last time. May as well give it a go again. There is bugger all else the UK has at its disposal to be "great".

NO, the majority in Northern Ireland voted 'Stay' and I hope this too, begins a new referendum about whether they want to stay part of Britain or join the Island of Ireland together and stay within the EU.

This is a real hope that I would love to happen within my life time. It would make economic sense and if the Unionists could just see that then Ireland could become the Celtic tiger again. clap2.gif

I am absolutely gutted about this decision to leave.

It's called democracy. I might agree with you.

Yes Scotland will leave UK, but it no longer fits in so many ways. I think (not sure) Wales, N.Ireland voted out too. If that's right, that's 3-1. If Scotland can't live with that, and I accept it can't, then it has no place in UK.

Yes, sorry, my mistake 55% remain NI. Well maybe the Union has had its day anyway. Don't get me wrong I like NI and Scots folk too. We can all be friends. I've changed my stance quite a bit lately. Best nations are allowed to do what they want.
