It is sort of on topic but I am trying to buy a sausage stuffer here in Thailand.

 

Unfortunately I live in rural Khampaeng Phet and there is nothing around here, not even at the new Robinsons that opened a couple of months ago.

 

I am looking for a hand cranked horizontal or vertical model, perhaps 1.5 or 2kg capacity with a nozzle of 28 mm diameter and perhaps 180mm long.

 

I can use my grinder but the nozzle is cone shaped and if I push the skin on too hard it splits. I can only get a couple of sausages filled before it runs out and I have to reload the skins. The grinder/stuffer I use is a George Foreman model and it is difficult to load the mince and ram it down as the top tray keeps rising to let air into the stuffer.

 

I am looking for something like these below.

 

If anybody has any idea can they please post it or pm me?

That is where I have been but I was hoping that there would be a place in Thailand That does them.

 

After all there are a lot of Thai and farang suasages sold in the country so somebody must be making them.

 

I am also looking for butchers twine #4 size. In the UK it is about £.50 a roll and on Lazada over 2,000 baht.

Bill, I have just recently discovered Ali Express, I have just searched for sausage string and they sell it at 27 baht, it won't let me provide a link unfortunately. Many other items to do with sausages, might be worth a look.

I have tried similar but with puff pastry but always the filling (cheese n onion & mince and onion) seemed to seep out during baking. Too wet i guess. 

I always precook the pie filling in a saucepan until thick and gloopy.

Puff pastry .... too hard to make at home ...... always short crust pastry, just flour/fat/water.

I have taken a look. The deliveries seem to be only USA. Have I missed something? Sorry if I'm being stupid.lol

Hi, I'm new to Ali Express, but a quick check shows that most of their goods come from China, I know the price is shown in dollars but when you order an item it is in baht. Maybe someone more knowledgable experience can concur. I have ordered about 6 items and have confirmation that the items have been shipped.

There is a TV topic already running on AliExpress.

I have just read the thread above and had a look at sausage stuffers and butchers twine so I will give it a go next week.

OTOH the sausages are great.

 

I have some friends who go back to the UK and I generally ask nicely if they can bring back a kg of sausage herbs and casings.

 

I had thought of asking someone to bring me a stuffer back but they are relatively heavy.

 

Ali Express looks like the best bet at the moment for sundries and Weschenfelders in Nothumberland have greta sausage mixes but they will not ship to Thailand as there are too many problems involved.

I tried pastry once here and it was a disaster, i think my kitchen is too hot even though i chilled things, so i cheat and buy frozen puff pastry from foodland.

 

Which fat do you use?, is it shortening?

I just use palm oil margarine 45bht/Kg from yok.
No need to chill or mess about, mix the flour and marg (just enough to look a little yellow), than add enough water to make a stiff dough.
Roll out with plenty of flour, fold over the filling and seal the edge with milk.
For a healthier variety one can use the Rice bran oil shortening from King Brand.
Available at many supermarkets.

This company does a Cumberland sausage herb mix..... give them a try. I got Kampot pepper from them

speaking of mail order spices, really need to find a supplier for small amounts of garam masala 250g, etc...most other stuff that I need for curries can be found in the spice section at makro...even fenugreek seeds and etc...

 

the wimminfolk in my family have always been able to find sausage casings at the local market...the local casings do OK but need a lot of washing beforehand...folks might wanna try some of the american sausage recipes like louisiana hot links and etc for which there are a lot of ingredients available locally...really nice when grilled...

them sarnies look mighty fine...I can't seem to find any suitable veges to grill unfortunately so I stick mostly to tuna and egg mayo and they're gettin' old...when I make my own bread just a slice and some butter will do fine...

 

I do a cuke salad with a dressing...core the cukes and slice and toss lightly with a suitable dressing, most anything will do; asian, vinaigrette, etc., careful not to use to much or things get soggy......keep in the fridge fer a couple of days to nibble on...

 

recently found an asian/daikon radish, and cuke salad recipe which is nice, sprinkled with some sesame seeds...garlic, ginger, rice vinegar and oil for the dressing...might try some dried flaked red chile next time but ye gotta be careful with that stuff, especially after it's been refridgerated...
