made this which was nice...another garbanzo/chickpea recipe...as long as ye have quality canned chick peas handy no need to ever mess with the soaking and the cooking...

used ground pork instead of the black pudding and some trimmed long stemmed greens from the market instead of spinach...woulda been nice with some baby bok choy but can't always find it...no leeks available where I live so just left them out...

 

the combo of paprika with ground cinnamon is interesting...supposed to be a spanish tapas bar recipe...be nice to have some fresh crusty bread to eat it with as there's plenty of jus from the toms...

If it's a detox you're after I can highly recommend the shophouse restaurant I ate at yesterday evening. Sick as a dog all night, stomach nicely cleared out 55555.

Almost lost my lunch. Sounds awful :bah:..save for the broccoli. Hope u don't break the fast with that! If that was the only option, I'd stay on the fast!  FOREVER :vampire:

There has been few fasts I've done with zero food.

Usually, chicken broth, tea, olives and cheese in minute portions. 

This fast I intend to try something new for me towards the end.

A coffee enema.

southerners in the US would add the pork fat to the cooking water for the broccoli and let simmer...my Tennessee grandma useta use hog jowl which is about the same...I'd always discard the cooked fat because I don't like fat and gristle but it would coat the veg with a nice layer of grease...excellent with fresh green beans...

 

but I must say that it would be a bit hard on the stomach if breaking a fast...

Don't I know it! Grew up in the South. All that now sounds a great way to ruin good veggies! But, much as hate to admit it, was good eatin' as a kid...and the cornbread (made with eggs, butter, buttermilk & bacon fat...yuk all) was divine! 

 

Fortunately, been a vegan (no secret here) for the better part of 30 years.

How did a coffee enema end up on a food thread?  If you want to clean your system out and gross everybody anywhere near  eat a dozen pickled eggs and wash them down with a lot of ice cold beer.

just did the daikon radish salad again tonight but using gavny's suggestion with the fresh ginger and it was tip top...

 

a big roar for gaviny...didn't have any fresh chiles on hand but I'll remember for the next time...but now I'm runnin' outta rice vinegar, time fer a trip to makro, only got a kilo bag of miso left and etc...and someone said that they now have nice avocados?

 

next up: cannellini white bean stew...gotta remember to get a kilo of tomatoes and a bunch of cilantro...

the white bean stew was grand (see previous post)...I had a look at the recipe and thought 'chopped cilantro stalks in the cooking mixture? with cumin and cinnamon?' sounded like a chef on acid...very nice and fragrant and then there's the bit at the end with cilantro leaves mixed with oil and lemon juice which was the kicker...I tossed in a splash of bottled lime juice that I use for a vodka mixer but they got fresh lemons at makro...

 

this one and the previous garbanzo/chick pea recipe posted earlier with cinnamon and paprika serve to illustrate the versatility of beans simmered in a sauce...quite remarkable but even better if ye got some nice bread on hand...an impetus to improving one's bread making skills...

 

btw when the step daughter got home with the goods I asked about washing the cilantro (pak chee) and her eyes got big 'ye always gotta wash the cilantro!...' good to keep in mind...

the enduring allure of meatloaf...

 

was reading a detective novel last night and right before I went to sleep the protagonist Harry Bosch was near a deli counter in LA that offered meatloaf sandwiches and he got one to take back to his car to eat (he was on surveillance) as I was falling asleep...needless to say that I woke up hungry a few hours later...

 

and then there was the condemned man on death row in a recent movie who when asked what he wanted for his last meal 'meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn bread, mighty fine...'...and now things were at a fever pitch and I looked in the 'favorites' in my food section

Without corn meal you CAN make no cornbread.

I’m my opinion, cornbread does not go that well with meatloaf anyway.

I love a good pork meatloaf, and meatloaf gravy is the bomb.

I’m having a hankering for some stuffed bell-peppers...

man...it's been so long that I've had cornbread or the cornmeal available to make it from that I can hardly remember what it tastes like...

 

I feel that cornbread goes good with most things...the dude on death row coulda had wonder bread but he didn't...and cornbread wouldn't do very well with a meatloaf sandwich...I used some of the local packaged bread for my meatloaf sandwich today, hadta toast it first but it still tasted funny even with lotsa mustard...a nice fresh vietnamese baguette woulda done the trick...

 

took the left over mash and fried it up in the skillet with the last sausage from the TGM that I bought last time at makro...the mash warmed up in the sausage grease came out with a nice aroma of potato hashbrowns...

 

down the hatch...
