PHUKET: A 36-year-old Chinese tourist has died after being pulled from a resort swimming pool in Kamala last night (July 2). Police have yet to confirm whether the man drowned.

Staff at Patong Hospital notified Lt Col Somnuek Damkaew of the Kamala Police at 10:31pm that they were unable to revive a Chinese tourist they named as Zhi Fengren.

“Doctors pronounced the man dead on arrival and confirmed that there were no injuries on his body,” Col Somnuek said.

Mr Zhi and his family checked in to the hotel on Friday (July 1), he added.

“Around 9pm on Saturday, he asked his friends and family to join him and his son for a swim at the pool,” Col Somnuek explained.

“Around 9pm on Saturday, he asked his friends and family to join him and his son for a swim at the pool,” Col Somnuek explained.

Most swimming pools at resorts close at 7PM, so why was he inviting others for a swim 2 hours after closing time?

The reason they close the pools at night is to avoid (drunken) people to drown in the dark without anybody noticing it.

Condo and hotel pools rarely are deeper than 1.5m

hard to drown

Quite often there are parts of the pool that are up to 1.5 meters, with other parts deeper, 2 to 2,5 meters would be very normal for a hotel pool.

True, that plus the risk of annoying people trying to sleep in nearby rooms is the reason they have closing times for pools.

It seems these guests didnt care about the rules or other guests and one paid the highest price for it.

True, but many have fences, and gates that can be locked, that cover the hotel for insurance purposes.

Maybe some, but no, hotel pools are in general not fenced of.

Please keep your text out of the quotes.

There is also usually a 24 hour reception and / or security guard to stop late night pool parties. Also, CCTV on the pool area.

Sure mate.

Your earlier Thai bashing posts have been proven incorrect, but keep up the nonsense.

I sometimes wonder if there are no pools or deep bodies of water in the parts of China where these lemmings come from.

All too many of these non-swimmers seem to gleefully leap into water wherever they find it, with tragic results.

You can't legislate, nor provide 24 hour nanny services, for adults with little commonsense or self preservation instincts.
