PATTAYA: -- Following a meeting at City Hall, which established new rules for sidecar kitchen motorcycles, street food vendors, beggars and homeless people along Beach Road and Walking Street.

On July 13 Assistant City Law Enforcement Officers were on patrol and enforcing discipline in Pattaya when Mr Kamphol Chinabut, a thirty-seven year old kebab vendor, was arrested in front of Walking Street.

He was angry about this and reacted by punching Mr. Pramote Ouphawong, Assistant City Law Enforcement Officer, in the face.

regulate these vendors by making licensing a

pre-requisite for vending business.

make it compulsory to displace the licence on the vending cart.

monitoring will be a breeze and it will help to reduce illegals.

another member has voiced hygiene concerns.

these could be monitored under the license.

He must have been upset about the officials checking him out.

Should have fixed the problem with a free kebab, not a right hook.

I know violence should be a last resort, but can you imagine how often EVERYONE who tries to make an honest day's wages is extorted by the very people who are appointed to represent and protect them?

Thailand is violent, untill these scumbags do time for this it won't change ,Thais are very handy with these beatings when the other person is old ,women ,child or out numbered 5 to 1 and they always sorry when caught

Still safer than some areas of North America where they'd just open up with a semi-automatic weapon.

Not 100% sure of you're referring to the kebab vendor or Thai officials.

Quite possibly both.

Not much of a beggar clampdown going on. I walked past 9 Keystone Cops at the Watchai traffic light junction last night, pulling over (mostly) foreigners on motorbikes, while 20 yards away a woman was begging with her drugged-up toddler on the street.

Why not post that on a North American forum.

P.S. this forum isn't one...

+Sad but true...my hometown, chicago, reports an average of 15 murders a day...the assaults are over 100 each day for a city that is 20% the size of BKK

Or France where you can get run over by a truck

The vendor was upset because he couldn't make the rules up as he so chose, couldn't pester people with his probably toxic kebabs, and couldn't block public walkways to suit his own personal convenience.

Great stuff !!

An "under the rug" jobbie, no image tarnishing of Pattaya, meaningless apology to the City Hall official, and all will be quickly forgotten.
