Aussie bicyclist fined over reckless Doi Suthep ride

I've kind of accepted that people cycle, ride and even drive on the wrong side of the road every day in Thailand. I was watching the video thinking whats the big deal until I saw them nearly cause an accident with the pick ups at 2mins where his group clearly had no intention of avoiding the pick ups. It then became unacceptable in my mind. It's a shame as I respect people who keep themselves fit and push themselves. I love their motivation and wish that I had more of it myself.

My take. What a short circuited minds these cyclers are. All over the world in fact. They have an atitude that the road is theirs.

What else is he proving than being a self kicker. Oh, watch me going mommy.

Besides, the Tour the France is in Europe, go that way.

And these outfits, what a queers.

So he apologised; haha, Not so, this over confident vegan guy will NOT learn and shows only that he is a narcist and not an ambassador.

Another quality farang.

Please forgive him for littering and spitting as this is what all these cyclists do. Lucky for you if you are not just passing them by.

Big Deal

Be honest. Have you ever in your entire life committed anything worse than this wayward cyclists jaunt. All these TV members rants are pathetic given that people in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones.

Hypocrites tend to enjoy having a good bash at others folly once reaching or getting anywhere near retirement age.

Nothing else to do I suppose hahaha

Yes, I have better things to do then telling you that you are in the minority here, so I think you are suggesting something hypocrite here against many TVM

How can you tell if a cyclist is vegan?...They'll let you know. What a w4nker.

As I posted way back seabass, they behave like born again Christians, gays just out of the closet, and Marco Polo, wanting everybody to think they're the first to be a vegan. He certainly has a brain like a vegetable!

What a complete utter idiots they are! Taking corners against traffic just for fun, what if a bus full of children came downhill at the same spot?

I don't believe a cyclist is any danger to a bus full of children, no matter what he does.

Exactly....until the bus driver takes evasive action, loses control, and goes over the side.

Keep believing what you choose though.

Could be if the bus driver swerved to miss the cyclist and then lost control. Rather like the vehicle that swerved to miss a dog the other day and ended up crashing into a building.

buses aka 'bigger' vehicles, don't swerve for people aka littler vehicles - especially falang ones

They rather only swerve for dogs, and for things bigger than the bus

Buildings always win

I've met this guy..., he is one serious egocentric crank handle.

I thought I should watch the video, and got a few seconds into the dance routine. You're right.

It seems taking a bike on vacation is the 21st century equivalent of the John Denver wannabees taking their cheap guitars everywhere in the 70's. Maybe they were only guitar cases with their undies inside?

Card carrying w4nker.

Two references to the offender in this being gay or a queer. What a broad minded bunch you all are. This is 2016 so wake up and smell the coffee. Calling someone gay or queer is inappropriate. Please <deleted>, nimrod, dip stick, <deleted> by all means. Because he is.

Why is gay offensive? Gay parade comes to mind. Do you feel that reference is wrong? It was introduced by gay people. If a person goes with another of the same sex then they are GAY. A kettle is a kettle not "an implement in which to boil water". Sounds like you are gay and do not like the label. As for the cyclist he is dressed in flamboyant colors that is seen at the gay parades so that, I guess, is why the poster called him that. Toughen up Princess and get a thicker skin

Calling him / them, gay, queer, and a bunch of fags, all used in this situation as insults is not offensive to gay people reading this?

And your stereotypes about gays coming out of the closet and wearing flamboyant colours and gay parades.... I thought all people, gay or straight usually wear flamboyant colours at parades and carnivals?

'Gay' is not offensive, any more than 'black' is on its own, but when used as an insult to put people down it is... surely you would realise that?

The guy was a selfish egotistic idiot. His apology was half hearted and worded so it was not really an apology at all. And it was disgusting seeing that other guy spitting on the steps to the temple.

It's the kit gets me, but then I suppose one wouldn't want to get mistaken for a poor person, would one. All this gear for cycling, yet Thais'll happily go out on a motorbike wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.

with these sort of posts i'd imagine you cause a lot of your board name

obviously you havent seen, but cycling has taken off in thailand big time

and the guess what? the wealthy thais buy very expensive bikes AND wear the kit, shock horror!

and what cycling as a sport has to do with Thai commuting on mocy is something only you could fathom.

ridiculous stuff

Real attitude problem, they should fine them hard. Just an incredible stupid (im polite) morron. 10000 bath fine is ok with me !

Still in his apoligy, saying it was ok for him. Then go back to Sidney and drive on wrong way, maybe some big truck put you on his bumper!

But that being said, they (police) can also do some about thai, coz seen them driving on motorbike with 3 or more people

Or entering a one way road, wrong way. Driving on pedestrian roads. driving without helmet.

Yeah the guy did the wrong thing and should wake up to himself. But god almighty how many motorbikes do the same thing? No matter where you are the motorbikes use the wrong side of the road.

If you are gonna do the wrong thing for gods sake don't film it and put it on the media.

No, the cycling Thais are usually in full lycra kit. For them it's the posing that's important.

Same as Aussie cyclists. Don't just single out Thais

Another hiso Aussie in Thailand.

Not only does he have contempt for Thai culture and religion he arrogantly thinks he can ride how and where he pleases and screw everyone else.

He initially smirked at being caught by the police and clearly has no remorse or intention of changing his attitude. He'll be the first to whine when he's scraped off the tarmac though.

Clowns like him get foreigners and cyclists a bad name. Little pr*ck.

As an Australian living and running a Bicycle Tour business here in Thailand and riding and racing in this region for over a decade I think they should have thrown him out of the Country. What is it about people from so called 'developed' nations when they arrive here they regress. Human regression is rife here and I can tell you this Cyclists wouldn't not have been riding the day after if he had been caught in Australia doing stupid, disrespectful stuff like this.

I know, I'm going to get all the Police haters and Expats here who complain all the time that my comments are harsh. However, as an Expat for over a decade you do NOT disrespect the locals let alone post videos of your stupidity on YouTube.

For anyone who doesn't know what Strava is, it's an app used to track your riding, running etc performance. And for him to say 'Strava Got Me Arrested in Thailand' is just dumb. The guy is a moron and stunts like this makes it hard for everyone else. Phew!! this is the next generation of Australian...

The guy is a jerk and sucking up all this publicity like a vacuum cleaner.I am just as guilty writing this post.

He's had his few moments of fame ,finito

You're right Sparkles, he'd be feeding on what's posted here, but with his level of maturity, he won't absorb it and take a look at himself.

The dance routine at the start of the video was as far as I wanted to go. Egomaniac!!

I ride a bicycle as transportation in Pattaya. I am very careful but am amazed at the lack of regard I get from Thai drivers. I see them look at me, we even make eye contact then they pull out in front of me like I am not there. Cars, trucks, buses and even motorbikes whiz past me with inches to spare. I have even been run off the road by some idiot bus driver!

I hope people will read this and treat cyclists with the same respect any other vehicle on the road gets!

Thank you
