webfact
Time for zoning - or just another day in Pattaya?Image: ThairathPATTAYA: -- A clip posted on Facebook has sparked a debate in the Thai community. Is it time for certain areas of Pattaya to be reigned in? Is it time for zoning to protect children and youths from the worst excesses of the resort? For most Pattaya people the sight of a scantily clad maiden dressed to kill in the street is more likely to provoke comments about the girl's shapely curves and availability rather than any sense of outrage, reported Thairath. But a video posted on the Pattaya Watchdog fan page claiming to have been shot in Pattaya Soi 6 caused a lot of comment from netizens. The video shows a comely lass approach a pick-up in the street and have a conversation with the occupants. Her attire is somewhat revealing and would be likely to attract wolf-whistles from most red blooded members of the opposite sex. However, many online commentators cried foul.Comments were broadly in two camps: Camp One were those that thought this was just normal in Pattaya. There was nothing unusual in her behavior or dress. She was probably working.Camp two, however, said that Pattaya soi 6 is a public place where children and youth might see what was going on. That is not appropriate and the government should consider creating zones where such behavior should not be permitted.Thais clicking on an opinion button on the Thai Rath site that reported this story showed that 19% liked the content, 20% per cent thought it was "sanuk" (fun) while 55.6% did not like it.The girl in the video was not available for comment.Source: Thairath-- 2016-07-

smedly
girl ? the weird thing is that lots of the "girls" that come to pattaya to work would have their family think they are just supporting tourism but is it some sort of denial system ?
ClutchClark
Zoning? Is there even a word in the Thai language for the concept? Cheers
bobthomas
Likely we will see what had happened eons ago in Las vegas. Hooker broads pushed out into the hinterlands as property values rise. It always takes Thailand longer to get things done but in time.....they always get done b

sahibji
if these activities go on in broad daylight in areas where families reside, negative impacts are sure to occur, more on impressionable young children. unfortunately these activities have become a way of life and protection of the young should take priority. such pleasure should be permitted indoors and controlled environment. huanga
zoning? I thought it was already zoned. There is Pattaya and there is the rest of Thailand.

Condorman
Not many families with children venture onto Soi 6. I'd say its pretty much zoned.

The families know full well what the girls are doing and fully support it.
ehs818
Soi 6 is clearly 'unique'. It is already in a zone of its own. Leave it alone, and perhaps a sign at the entrance might be nice to make visitors aware of it's 'adult' character. Or not!
DrTuner
Yes, it's time for zoning. Throw out all who are offended and let the mongers carry on. The zone shall be called "Pattaya". Start by demolishing Central and building the lot full of beer bars.
English 1
Please give that 'Girl?' some ad-Vice those shoes are damaging her feet and she should change them for more healthy footwear. Apart from that she adds to the flavour for sure!
cumgranosalum
"Is it time for zoning to protect children and youths from the worst excesses of the resort?" - a crappy unthought out question that really deserves to be chucked in the bin.

Bangkok Barry
Soi 6 is clearly 'unique'. It is already in a zone of its own. Leave it alone, and perhaps a sign at the entrance might be nice to make visitors aware of it's 'adult' character. Or not! There is a street in Hamburg where girls sit in the window looking for work, and that street has a screen at each end that you walk around to enter. That might work for Soi 6, which is more in-your-face than most other places in Pattaya.
bazza40
I'm not sure I can think of a city that does not have kerbside negotiations in progress during certain hours. Perhaps Venice and Amsterdam have waterside workers.
IAMHERE
Zoning? Is there even a word in the Thai language for the concept? Cheers pretty sure it translates (I can use that word?) to 'envelope please'.
kingstonkid
I think that it like Bangkok is already zoned. The only thing that I would add is that hotels have a tourism package that tells families areas that they should not take their kids. There are always going to be these areas. The big difference now is that people on both sides have forgotten about common sense.
williamgeorgeallen
pattaya should be zoned red light and jomtien (except for the rompo beer bars where i drink) should be zoned for family orientated visitors. i doubt something like this would ever be implemented as thailand would not legalize prostitution and damage their international reputation. RobertoOzman
This is a Lady-Boy, not a girl!..... Soi 6 is a growing place for Lady-Boys, and that's OK. If that is your choice, then by all means go there and try. But Lady-Boys should be told to get off the streets, and operate in Lady Boy areas such as Soi 6, and clubs around Pattaya and Walking Street. Lady-Boys should NOT be allowed to operate on the beach areas. If a person wishes to link with a Lady-Boy then they know where to go to find them. But it should NOT be the beach areas! GeorgeCross
i'd say the beach promenade area is a bigger problem - still full of hookers walking around at 6-7am mixing with lots of families and kids. maybe clean that area up and leaver the (obviously) red light zones to themselves

ronrat
Tourists walking through Soi 6 are too lazy to detour a 100 metres on the way to the beach from their hotels. They are hardly going to care what their kids see.
Thian
Was she not wearing nickers? Or a G-string? What's the fuzz, you see them all the time on Samui. So the Thai netizens think what the ladyboyz on beachroad do is all fine but a girl who stands like a cow who has to shit is a big problem?
