Jai Dee Posted November 20, 2006 Share Posted November 20, 2006 23 rice mills join rice pawning project this year Surin Deputy Governor Mongkol Surasajja (มงคล สุระสัจจะ) revealed that there are 23 rice mills in the province joining the rice pawning project for the 2006/2007 harvest season. So far three rice pawning centers have been set up. As for the rest of the rice mills, the province is preparing a contract for them to participate in the project. Farmers in the areas without a pawning center are allowed to pawn their produce with the center nearby. Prices of pledged rice of this year are set in line with the market prices. The price of 42-gram jasmine rice stems is 9,000 baht per cart and the price of pledged rice at a barn is 9,000 baht per ton. The Deputy Governor said that at present the province is speeding up distribution of pledged rice about 71,000 tonsleft from last year’s project. The province has bought 1,200 tons of rice from local barns for further bidding.
