Final poll shows draft charter wins approval from 48.4% of people interviewed

BANGKOK: Bangkok Poll today released its latest survey of the upcoming August 7 charter referendum showing 48.4% giving endorsement of the draft charter, while only 7.7% opposing, 8.5% abstaining, and 35.4% hesitating.

The survey was conducted from interviews with 2,810 people from all parts of the country during July 26-29.

The release today would be the last as the Referendum Act prohibits polling seven days ahead of the Aug 7 referendum date.

Asked on a question about their intentions to go to the poll on August 7, 87.8% said yes, up 2.0% from previous survey in July 23.

Only 6.2% said they would not go to the poll, down 0.9% from previous survey.

On a question of the endorsement of the draft charter, 48.4% said they would endorse it, up 3.7% from the previous survey.

Only 7.7% said they would disapprove it, down 2.1% from earlier survey, and 8.5% said they would abstain.

Meanwhile 35.4% said they remained undecided.

For another question related to trouble making during the referendum day, 75.4% said they were not worried while 22% said they were concerned and 2.6% were uncertain.

What a crock .

I feel sorry for the Thai population.

Held hostage .

Fake polls saying 99.3% approve of their captors .

Referendum's that amount to their continued influence.

Rigged systems where outside monitors are banned .

Now these fake polls saying they will get up on the day.

Only 7.7% disapprove?

Really?

I asked 50 Thais and none ...zero wanted to vote in favour .

You have really got to wonder!

The Bangkok Poll (Bangkok University Research Center) go to all the trouble of questioning 2,810 people from all parts of the country during July 26-29.

What they report from all this work is that:

• 48.4% of those polled said they would endorse the draft Charter, 7.7% said they would disapprove it, and 35.4% said they remained undecided.
• 75.4% said they were not worried about trouble-making on the day, while 22% said they were concerned and 2.6% were uncertain.

In all the excitement, they seem to have forgotten that there is a second (and probably more important) referendum question. One that asks whether senators should have a say in the appointment of the prime minister, who could be an unelected official, such as a general!

It's a real pity Bangkok Poll didn't report how the people plan to answer this question.

However, their web site (http://bangkokpoll.bu.ac.th/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=71) does have some other interesting statistics relating to people's knowledge and understanding of the draft Constitution. It appears that 61% have no understanding, 34.4% know some important issues (whatever these might be), 1% are not sure, while a whopping 3.6% believe they know the issues well!!!

The fact that 61% are ignorant of the draft Constitution's contents (and particularly their meaning) is an damning indictment of how Thais have been treated like mushrooms since yu Prat and his usurpers began running this show with their myopic focus on a single event!

A poll conducted by a government university that lists a General as a member of its policy committee.  87.8% of those polled say they will vote even though 35.4% haven't decided how.

As I've posted many times, polls in Thailand have no credibility.  Neither will a referendum in which discussion is censored, "impolite" criticism leads to arrest, no viable alternative to acceptance is available, and the election and vote count will not be independently monitored.  The only result that would have credibility is a rejection, and it seems the government is laying the groundwork for declaring victory.  Perhaps they've already decided on the margin they'll announce.
