Thais furious as 'farang' woman parades in her undies at Phuket temple

PHUKET: -- Thai visitors to a temple were outraged to see a Western woman in a revealing see-through outfit at a popular central Phuket temple yesterday.

Where were the officials to stop her?, they asked, as the woman wandered around oblivious to the distress she was causing Buddhists who were trying to concentrate on religious matters at Wat Chalong, reported Thairath.

So some good Buddhists took pictures to send to the authorities to call for action.

Reporters said that Wat Chalong is often the site for Chinese people to have pre-wedding photos taken where the couples kiss and hold on to each other - behavior forbidden in temple grounds.

Usually there are officials on hand to tell them to stop.

But in the case of the western woman no one tried to stop her.

" Furious and distress " and this is coming from the country probably with the biggest numbers

of bars, lady of and night and day, awash with drugs and an internationally known as a

men's haven, only stone throw away from this temple you have tones of bars and massage parlors catering for all whims and want of immorality,

Thailand is a major tourists country with many millions of visitors coming every year,

and with it you get all sorts of people, not all of them know the rules and the knowhow as to how to dress in a holy places....

Why let the truth get in the way of a headline?

Yeah I don't see many 'furious Thais' on social media, just a mixture of amusement and asking why the temple staff weren't there in time to save her from embarrassing herself.

Self-hating farang will be more riled up about this than the Thais.

While inappropriate, very nice. Is she blond or is that a scarf, if blond may explain not knowing.

It is the Temples duty to have some available to monitor comings and goings. Most I have been to have apparel available to borrow or lease while in the Temple.

True bars and nightclubs are in great numbers, but that doesn't mean that temples should be a showcase of stupid farangs who don't know how to behave OUTSIDE a bar.... and if not all of these farangs are aware of their behaviour, I think Thai authorities should point it out with a night in a cell or a hefty fine...

I think it's shows a disgraceful disrespect for Thai people and Thai culture.  Even though she is not Buddhist she knows that this is a holy place for Thai people.   Does anyone think that she would try to enter a cathedral in her own country or in any western country dressed like that?

If one goes around looking for distress it will usually be found. What a trivial matter, and really only a slight variation of the commonplace occurrence where thais go around looking for the slightest reason to beat up some farang. If a thai was in that dress not a word would have been said :(

Yeah, right, that's why they took pictures.

These people that posted the photos need to be hunted down and prosecuted for damaging the image of Thailand......100,000 baht fine and 5 years in jail no less!!!

Why wouldn't she?

95 procent she was part of a Russian tour group. She should have known better, but more importantly the tour guide and wat chalong officials should have prevented this.

If she were to enter an Orthodox church in Russia like that she would get a scolding from the cleaners and a good bollocking from the priest on duty.
