CHIANG MAI: -- A 60 year old Swiss man has been found brutally murdered at his rented house in Chiang Mai.

He had been stabbed, strangled with a cable and then tied up to the stairs. There was evidence of theft and a Kawasaki motorcycle was missing from outside, reported Sanook.

Downtown Chiang Mai police were called to a house in Soi 6, Suan Dork Road in the Suthep sub-district on Tuesday after reports that a foreigner had been found dead.

They went to the two storey property where they found the body of Daniel Rudolf who had been dead at least 24 hours. There were cut marks on the body including a stab wound to the stomach. He had been strangled with a cable and tied to the stairs. He was found on his knees.

A search of the house showed signs of theft and a D-Tracker motorcycle was missing from outside.

The owner of the house said that the victim had rented the property for about six years and was a man who kept to himself. The owner last saw him on Saturday evening reading behind his house.

When the owner had not seen him for a few days he went to check up on him and found the door open - then the grisly scene at the stairs.

Police said they think that the attacker was known to the victim and planned the murder.

Just as easy for a woman and her "brother" to do this. Either way,  someone was probably angry enough about money not forth coming to do this.  Stupid to steal the bike,  makes it easier to catch them but they're most likely looking to sell it for quick cash

amazing. people come from a country with a very high standard of living only to live in a rented hovel like that.

Generally when people brag about cheap rent its usually surrounded by thais in low class area and think it makes them an easy target.

RIP nobody should die such a brutal death

There are always people not standing on decorum, content with a simple home.

Maybe you prefer a palace and can pay for it, there are also those not too rich, not wanting to show off.

Indeed.

Your rent doesn't only include the quality of your abode, it includes the quality of your neighbors.

A neighborly dispute with some angry, resentful Thai that he refused to give into then disrespected, certainly isn't out of the question.

Not unless you mix with your neighbors and go to weddings and funerals with them and become part of their community. Then you have backup. Not having much money has nothing to do with class.

Strange comment.

So you think everyone in Switzerland lives in a property worth millions of Francs ?

People have a multitude of reasons to wanting to live in Thailand I have rich friends and average (financially) friends and they all have different reasons to live here...

A bit of respect would not go amiss here from some of these comments.

A man as died and  he will have a family somewhere who also deserve some respect.

R.I.P.

You're absolutely right.

But you know this maxim attributed to Confucius and applies perfectly this case:

"The invective and slander only dishonor their authors."

RIP for this man

And dont forget that most crimes are covered or under reported..... This country is a death trap.

Every time, i log on thaivisa, i only read horror stories.

Its probably not a bad idea for you to try letting that go...its really not very healthy to keep that topic wound so tight as you do.

Cheers
