CityNews - Police raided a house being used by a group of Chinese nationals holding tourist visas as an illegal pornography website operation centre based in Thailand - a criminal offence under pornography laws and immigration laws.

The house, found in Emperor Village 2, Faham, was home to a gang of Chinese nationals that concerned neighbours in the area, causing them to ask police to inspect what they were doing.Locals told the police it looked like it was being used as a work place.

After the raid, police discovered a series of computers with matching IP addresses to admins for a pornography website. In Thailand, watching pornography is not illegal, but selling, trading and distribution is illegal under pornography laws, section 287 of the penal code and article 14 of the criminal code.

Meanwhile a thai porn star marries an old farang opens a face book page and brags about her life.  If pornography is ilegal how can thailand boast having a porn star?

Her movies were made in Japan for Japanese companies.

Thailand doesn't boast about it. The media does.

A friend of mine has a question, if watching porn is legal, why are all the sites blocked?

The Thai ones aren't, only the foreign ones.

Type the name of Harold's wife into google. Press the 'videos' button, see the Thai sites that pop up and can be watched unhindered.

So I've been told.

To answer your (friend's) question it is to help protect the prostitution business and the incomes of all those who live off it.

If it is possible for viewers to get their jollies off watching a computer screen then it could mean that potential clients won't take the trouble to go to the more traditional outlets for such relief. That's my implausible theory anyway.

The last sentence of the news paper will be a blow for all those people working online.

Read many times keeping low profile will do, but there are no rules for on-line workers.

Copied the last part: They will be charged under the Computer Crime Act BE 2550 for disseminating pornography from within the Kingdom, and for working without the correct visa and work permits.

Your profound observation very conveniently leaves out the very relevant "ex-" when describing that woman.   By the way, Thailand doesn't boast about having "a porn star".

They're not all blocked but even so a website being blocked does not mean it is illegal or has illegal content, it just means the government doesn't want you to see it.  Andrew Drummond is an example of that.

My friend agrees, but he said a friend of his was offered porn DVDs in Patpong one evening, kind of defeated the whole object of being there.

There are several websites that offer porn made here in Thailand...even some that cater to extreme fetishes...I've also viewed ads on craigslist which openly advertise for porn "actresses"...how do they exist here? Do they simply offer payment to officials?  If the website is officially located outside Thailand, it is legal? Just curious...
