Samui shootout leaves two dead, five injured

SAMUI: -- A shootout broke out late last night in front of a famous entertainment venue, Camp Beer, on Koh Samui leaving two dead, a police officer and a security guard.

Five were injured. They are two police officers, and three guards of the entertainment venue.

Bo Phut police said the killed officer was Pol Lance Corporal Kachornsak Soisangwarn, a police officer at Bo Phut police  station. He was just posted to the police station to work recently.

The shootout happened at Camp Beer restaurant around midnight after the bar closed.

Investigation revealed that the officer and two colleagues, all in plainclothes, had a drink at the bar, and engaged in a quarrel with a group of teenagers dining and drinking  inside.

Nothing happened until the bar closed and the two groups were asked by guards to leave and settle their dispute outside.

But shortly after both groups left for talk outside, a brawl broke out and several gunshots were fired.

Seven were shot and injured.

So its ok for cops to drink at a bar at 2 am AND bring their guns along :shock1:

Yes!

That happens when each ordinary cop can carry his gun 24/7 like in Thailand.

(waiting for comments from the Trump voters :whistling:)

Best cops in the world according to ex RTP head honcho Somyot. So i wonder how long this guy's stint in the inactive post office will last ?

At least he was arrested....In some parts of the world, cops can  shoot people and appear to get away with it.....Lots of it in the news lately?

Are you serious? All this talk about guns. This has very little to do with guns and everything to do with alcohol.

Therefore, surely, learning why so many are addicted to alcohol will bring us closer to the reason for these deaths.

Well people get drunk in bars everywhere in the world (well almost).  bar fights are common as well.  The combination of drinking and carrying a gun in a lawless society results in people getting shot.  Alcohol is a factor but the amount of gun crime in Thailand is way off of the scale.

Really odd to bring American politics into a Thai forum...you obviously have strong, albeit misplaced, feelings and no qualms about sharing them...

Nothing compared to the good Old USofA.  In one County alone there were over 25,000 deaths due to shootings in a nine months period.

Bad to wear guns and drink – and just for info: Camp Beer is a fairly large bar & restaurant with live music mainly frequented by Thais; the venue is supposed to close at 2 am sharp according to military order – and thanks for the posted video that shows more of what happened, which took place outside at Camp Beer's entrance and parking area.

The hospital shown in video is Thai International Hospital, but presumably both that and nearby Bandon Hospital, mentioned in The Nation's article, have been used, as there were several victims.
Sad for the security guard's family, R.I.P., just doing his job, and the severely injured manager.

Bad news for bar owners.

Your having a good night in the bar, playing pool and whatever and a couple of plod with side arms walk in.That clears a bar faster than shit off a shovel.

I used to got to a bar in Soi Arroonatai off Pattay clang years ago.Playing pool in there one night,3 armed cops walked in and started playing on the next table. The staff were giving them drinks hand over fist.Didnt like it.Got out tout suite.Booze and coppers dont mix, specially if you are a ferang.

Guns make the world a much safer place.

...providing users are subject to;

- Proper training

- Forensicly maintained paper trails

- Regular testing

- Psychometric evaluation (Pol/Forces/Anyone who may be expected to take life in the course of duty)

- Discipline

- Rule of law.

Places where one or more are missing are no better than Syria and should be treated similarly until they sort their act out.
