car windshield tinting

I assume that you mean applying a 'film' to the inside of your windscreen like 99% of all the vehicles have over here.

If so this will be good as we havrn't had this topic for a few weeks now ...maybe even three months.

I have solarFX and am happy with it.

There is a legal %age tinting level ...but it seems to be ignored wholesale...

I have read that the limit is 30%. I have also read that all screens already have 10%. One guy reported that his wife had his windscreens tinted, driving at night he had to put his head out of the window to see where he was going. There are of course different qualities of tinting, I might just go for one that keeps the interior cool one of these days without reducing the light.

Doing it to avoid eye contact as many Thais seem to do should be a hanging offence.

Go below and get a place near you contact is right at the bottom of the web site.

I find mirror one good visibility good for looking in and out night or day, the front screen have lighter than sides and rear with a darker coloured strip at top.

I've only been in thailand for two years.

Just bought a car and although my girlfriend told me it is legal i had to ask just to make sure as i like to follow and abide by all laws whilst living in a different country.

When i drive its hard for me to see with the sun reflecting off the dashboard therefore its for safety reasons only, and as a poster above said just keeping the interior cool is a big plus! I don't need it too dark, just to match my other interior windows which are a light film(or tint) .

Thank you everyone for your contributions to this thread!

What about your exterior windows ??? :)

You could put something on your dashboard to stop the reflection !!

I think tinting on windscreen is a bad idea, makes driving at night dangerous.

Oops, excuse me . I meant exterior windows. Nice catch thanks

I have trouble driving at night and need to wear my glasses, but the reflection is quite awful. Always wanted to get a windshield film in the states but you need a prescription for it.

Besides solarfx, any other places i could get quality film installation? My girlfriend said we could do it at her dealership, is this true?

Are you saying you want to tint your entire windscreen?

Yeah..... Don't tint your entire windscreen. Did you even google this before making a topic? You can tint a section of the top area, but even then if you are a normal sized man in a honda car or whatever it will be right in the line of your vision.

Sunglasses man... Sunglasses. Specifically polarized.

So you are saying that when driving at night, with your glasses on, the reflection of other cars headlights causes a glare on your dash making it difficult to see past the dash glare?

You either need a mat for your dash, or as you said the car is brand new, there might be a slight oil protectant on the dash plastics from the manufacturers or dealer to make it look real nice for the buyer. Might try and clean it off.

I can not see any logical reason to fully tint an entire windshield.

Tinting the entire windshield at a very light film, yup. Sunglasses don't help me a lot in the car, its blinding almost. Also i like some privacy. Yeah i did lots of googling and searching.

I see more tinted windshields than non-tinted in thailand though..

At night i have to wear glasses because i can't see well, which is why i wanted a very light film just to protect me during the day. I also never drive at night in bkk , by the way

Even a light tint will affect the quality of vision. I hated it when my dealer put it on a new windscreen on a previous car of mine. I drove about 2kms from the dealer before turning around and telling them to remove it.

Yes, you do see more cars with tinted windscrens in Thailand just as you see more idiots in Thailand.

If you mean the dashboard top reflection below the front screen you can get what l call dashboard fitted carpets they have them in shops that do the after market stick on rubbish.

Disagree the very light reflective mirror one is excellent for sun & vision at night as well, glaring street lights and car & motorbikes dazzling lights are not a problem.

Much safer IMHO but l guess l just like being an idiot.  :shock1:

Carpet is a good solution to the dashboard glare problem.

If you want to get a better idea of how all the different levels of tint work then find a dealer and ask if you can sit in a few of the cars they have waiting for collection to see what you think. The darkest ones are ridiculous because driving at night in the rain or in a dimly lit parking garage means you need to lower the windows to see out, just plain dangerous. Ask to see the lighter films and have one fitted if you are ok with it. Car dealers can do it or they send the car down the road and have a specialist do the job for them.

I don't like looking at the texture of the film. I guess some people don't see it, but I do and (like most things) it annoys the hell out of me.

Hi. Yes, an old topic already...

Many other topics about tinted screen for cars,

and many value given: 25%, 40%, 80% (!) attenuation,

but a small question :

What does the Thai law says exactly on the subject ?

Anyone knows ? Any official link ?

Thanks

I've driven a car with a very dark tint on the front windscreen. Great in the daytime, dangerous at night on poorly lit roads.

I don't see a problem with a light tint on the front windscreen. It reduces glare and eyestrain. If you need to wear glasses, and don't have prescription sunglasses, it is a must-have in my view. I rented a car from Chic Car Rent last time and it had a light tint, and it was perfect.
