KRABI: -- Thailand has issued a warning to swimmers and snorkellers against venturing into the oceans after recent storms washed poisonous marine life ashore.

According to officials, steps have been taken to keep swimmers safe by closing Nai Thon, Nai Yang and Layan beaches of the famous Phi Phi Island on Monday, Xinhua news agency said.

Many resorts have also posted warnings about the danger of Portuguese man o' war and box jellyfish, and have also set up first-aid stations to deal with any emergency.

surely it is the storm rains washing nutrients into the sea that attracts the jelly fish isn't it?

Man o war aka Floating terror flows with the wind. It doesn't swim on its own.

Painfull sting but most of the time not lethal to adults.

Can be to childrens if stung near neck or heart.
