FBI reopens probe into Hillary Clinton's emails

The FBI has reopened an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Though the Democratic presidential nominee was cleared of criminal charges for sending classified information over a private email server in July, newly discovered emails have prompted the bureau to reexamine the case.

Director James Comey wrote a letter to Congress citing ‘emails pertinent to the investigation’ when making the announcement.

The new emails did not come from Clinton’s private server. They were found on a separate device in an unrelated investigation. The New York Times, reported that the device belonged to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her husband Anthony Weiner.

It comes as a major surprise just 11 days before the election.

Donald Trump welcomed the news, saying he had ‘great respect for the FBI’ having the ‘courage to right the horrible mistake that they made’.

Clinton, who was on a plane flying to a rally at Cedar Falls, Iowa when the news broke, has yet to respond. However, her campaign head John Podesta responded saying the timing was ‘extraordinary’, adding he was confident the investigation would not draw a conclusion any different from the one found in July.

Play fair guys and gals, remember it was only yesterday the liberals were crowing that this election was in the bag - upping the ante again accusing non-Clinton supporters of bigotry and racialism. Today will be a hard day for them, from riding the crest of the wave to eating sand, the board snapped in two and the crowd pointing and laughing. Nobody likes to see others suffering, lets try and go easy on the libs.

LA Times poll showing Trump ahead and gaining in this final furlong, we are past the hurdles and hazards. The old nag hobbling along miles behind, soon to be put out of her misery. This is going to be the best 2 weeks ever.

I certainly would not say the election is in the bag for Mrs. Clinton. I remember going to bed in 2000 with reports that  Al Gore would be the next President only to wake up around 6 AM and find out the race is now "too close to call".

Announcing something like this a few days before the election, is serious business.

Comey better make everything he has public very soon , or he is toast either way.

The democrats will go after him if he does not have anything but he negatively affects HRC's campaign. Or if HRC wins and then he come out with evidence that could have caused her to loose, the Republicans will go after him.

So unless he publishes soon he is toast. Either way his timing is terrible, this is not going to end well for him.

Yeah, really serious move. Clinton is already screaming for him to disclose the nature of the investigation, and that he owes that to the American people. Otherwise, it's just a last ditch effort by the GOP putting pressure on their man to tip the scales. In any event, he has opened a new can of worms. If there is something the voters need to know, better tell everyone now.

Don't think they can release info on an active investigation can they?

11 days from the election, the FBI should NEVER release such an announcement unless they disclose the details. Otherwise, it is highly improper and overt influencing an election by a Republican official of the most important law enforcement agency of the US government.

Certainly there should be clarification. It might be related to his wife's conflict with Weiner, etc., and that maybe Weiner's wife who was working for Clinton did something wrong. Or maybe, Clinton herself did something wrong.  Either way, everyone deserves to know the details, whatever they are.

If the reports are true, Comey has a mutiny on his hands within the FBI . The agents in this new investigation might just be holding his feet to the fire,  covering up for HRC. I am sure these guys are proud of the work they do,  Comey and the DOJ made the FBI and it people look like dumb asses, and they are not happy. Its time to right the wrongs and Comey has three choices, bend over for the WH administration and protect HRC and the DOJ, resign with six years remaining in his term or back his guys, the ones, trying to protect the people they gave an oath to do.

So she's going to fall across the line and be a lame duck even before inauguration. Expect years of endless enquiries, special investigators, reports and very little achievement. She can't blame anyone but herself.

There's really no way to know what the truth is. The news is full of former prosecutors and FBI people stating how astoundingly improper and irregular this all is. Either Comey is caving to GOP pressure or has something new.  Either way, it ends badly for all, as it casts aspersions without proof on the election, and probably results in the results being less of a landslide for Clinton, but likely won't change the outcome.

Really??

How about the FBI do a proper investigation obtain evidence through warrants and subpoena's , as is normal practice,  instead of immunity deals, and the DOJ prosecute the case based on that evidence.

Whatever the DOJ has done in the past is irrelevant. What is relevant now is 11th hour revelations that could influence the election, either way, without sufficient time to conduct new investigations to determine the substance of any new claims. Due Process has its functions, and granting immunity to elicit further information is standard practice.

My theory on what is happening now is that the GOP knows they have lost the general election, and this is an effort to try to keep the down-ticket losses to a minimum. Just the allegation will tighten the race, but not tip the scales on the result. It may however, save a few Senate or House seats.

**either way, Comey is taking a bullet for the GOP team here. He will be put out to pasture by this.

Last time they subpoena the emails, Clinton went ahead and deleted them. Such a crim

You do realise, surely, that there's actually no way of permanently deleting emails? Just as all those celebs who burst into tears when they realise that other people now have their intimate photos. Once something's been on the Internet it never, never disappears and it's never, never wholly secure

Yessiree.

The new emails came from devices seized from Carlos Danger and his wife, Huma Abedin.

You're probably right.  The Repubs haven't learned a thing.  Donald Trump's primary win is the voters punishing them for their politics of obstructionism.  But they'll keep right on doing it.  I wonder who the voters will punish them with next time.  Maybe Michael Moore?  Wouldn't that be a kick in the nuts.

My reading of Comey's memo suggests that the title of this thread and many news reports have gotten it wrong.  The probe is not being reopened.  Here's Comey's announcement:

NBC is reporting that the newly found emails were not originally withheld by Clinton:

And the emails are NOT from Clinton:

emails 2.png

And the AP is reporting that they didn't come from the private server:

Comey is waving an empty envelope in the air but not telling us what's inside.  So what exactly does everyone think is being probed here?  Most likely answer: you don't really care as long as it stirs the pot.

Perhaps. He has not reopened the case, but he is certainly considering it. This is a major problem for the Clinton campaign.
