Yes your are correct, your maths is shit. 2/3 of 5 is 3.333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

Otherwise known as 3hrs 20mins.

Or one looong soapy, or one average car trip duration across Bangkok at "rush hour".

Thai news is 1000 baht per person

3000 baht per car

GF is reading it to me now !!!

I will be driving     Lol.

Is that e/w for a car? If so it is 3 to 4 times the cost of diesel..........sounds way too much to be competitive....do passengers go free?

This has nothing really to do with the main project.  This is a private company and not the same one as in charge of the main project expected to be completed by 2020 at a cost of 15 billion, 9 of which is to be used to build 3 ports.  The feasibility is not yet complete.

This is a separate venture and when it fails, it will give the government a 'get-out' of the main project without any loss of face!   This is really being used as part of the feasibility at no cost to the government.

Great idea ! but it's been done before and failed due to charging ridiculously high prices. When you can catch the train from Pattaya to Bkk for 31 baht and then BKK to Hua Hin for just 44 baht. For the ferry to work it would need to charge a maximum of 200 baht otherwise it will go down faster than the Titanic.......

Most tourists don't have a clue what it costs to take a train or a bus from Pattaya to Hua Hin, never mind how to do it.  Offer up a decent level of comfort and the boat ride becomes part of the journey- one of the memories.  Bus rides?  Not so memorable- not in a good way, anyway.

And for all you guys focusing only on the destination, how much is it worth to be able to get sloshed for pretty much the entire car ride (you won't be driving, mind you), and end up at your destination with your vehicle and no DWI charges?

And the ferry will open up opportunities for all kinds of ancillary services like tuk-tuks to and from city center (okay, not the best example), concessions on the boat itself and at each end, souvenir kiosks for bored tourists with lots of time on their hands waiting for the next boat, and on and on.  Manage the services on each end, and the boat itself doesn't have to make money.   They could clean up just by owning the baht buses that take the suckers honored guests into town...

4 hours and 320 km....by road...

An average of 80kph! In your dreams. Speed limits you know

Last time I tried to leave BKK on a Friday afternoon, it took 2 hours to go 20 km with the construction traffic.  Realizing I'd be facing the same traffic on my Sunday return, I gave up, turned around and spent the weekend in BKK.

3 or 4 (or 6) hours on a comfy seat sipping a cold beverage watching the sun set over the water sounds pretty good.  Even better if there are cuties.  Strangely, I never seem to meet cuties while I'm in my air conditioned vehicle with the tinted windows up...

Ferries in 3rd world countries...tried and tested ...to death of many.....

Mini vans are just a faster system of elimination with smaller totals.

Not viable.

But a large cruise ship starting in Bangkok 14 day round tripping - Hua Hin - Samui - Koh Chang - Pattaya - Bangkok outside the 12 mile limit with a Casino on board and stamp out stamp in from Immigration....well hey ?...

in your dreams...

Suddenly Hua Hin becomes more interesting for people to retire to , have some fun and bring your viagra to Pattaya for a day and back to the safety of boring Hua Hin the rest of the week  .  Then recharge and repeat.

Yep so leave at 1400 hours and arrive at midnight if lucky. Add 100 baht for motorbike taxi to Pattaya Station. But i agree it has to be the cheapest way, and if time is no object!

Just over 2 hours of watching Thais chunder in abject misery. My missus can get seasick just watching the TV.. God help anyone on a boat with her. The Gulf of Thailand is far from being a mill pond.

Great news hope it is a success as the drive from Pattaya to HH is a nightmare and vice versa.

Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry service to begin January 1 next year

484_Ferry.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The long-awaited ferry service between Pattaya and Hua Hin will be commenced on January 1 next year as a New Year gift for the people, the Department of Marine announced.

Director-general of the department Mr Sorasak Sansombat revealed the operation of the ferry service across the Bay of Thailand on a 113 kilometre distance from Pattaya to Hua Hin after it has picked Royal Passenger Liner as the operator of the service.

As the Bangkok Post reported, he said the company is the only operator which submitted tenders to operate shuttle service after the department invited interested investors to submit tenders to operate ferry service on the route from the eastern coast covering Pattaya and Sattahip to the western coast covering Cha-am, Hua Hin and Pranburi.

The department invited investors to submit tenders on August 9 this year and announced the winner on September 30.

He said the department’s selection committee has endorsed the company’s proposals and is now under the process to inspect the ferry and improvement of ports for safety and appropriateness.

The company was given a three month long period after being selected to produce all required documents to apply for the licence, which included the ship certification licence.

He said the service would be commenced on January 1, 2017 to serve as a New Year gift for the people.

Initially the company will use one ferry with capacity to load 150 passengers and will operate a round trip in the route.

Feasibility study of full ferry service which includes the loading of motor vehicles is expected to finish this month and made known to the public on December 15.

Under the company’s proposals, it will begin service from Pattaya to Hua Hin on a 113 kilometre long route using Catamaran Ferry which has a maximum speed of 27 knots, and can load 150 passengers at maximum.

The company plans to introduce another ferry with a capacity to load 260 passengers at a later date.

Not this then?

N o!. That's merely a link to the previous article showing another vessel. Who are ROYAL  Passenger Liner, that was what I was asking. There is no clarity here, the Marine Dept called it "as a New Year gift to the people". If it is a gift, who is giving the gift?

OR, as another astute poster pointed out, is this a back room consortium of speedboat owners who have managed to aquire a vessel suitable for the cross gulf journey?
