webfact Posted November 22, 2016 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Locals in northern Shan state warned as fighting escalates Local residents in conflict-torn northern Shan State of Myanmar have been warned to restrict their movement in the region as battles escalate between a joint force of four ethnic armed groups and the Burmese army, The Irrawaddy News Online reported on Monday. The four groups include the Kachin Independence Army, the Taang National Liberation Army, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army and the Arakan Army – none of whom are signatories to the country’s controversial 2015 nationwide ceasefire agreement. The groups released a statement warning local people to take precautions and to support their activities after they launched three attacks on Burmese Army and police posts in northern Shan state’s Muse township early Sunday morning, leaving five policemen injured.
