Fortunately, not sure your figures are correct!

"about 150 last year. But the officer she road with said he'd only fired his weapon once in 16 years and said that was typical".

If you ever saw "Crock Dundee", do you remember when he took what's her name on the walkabout, the crock's he fed her and how she gobbled it all up ?

I agree with you but I would remind you of the Thai police general, Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, found with a gun in his luggage in Japan who was left off with nothing more than a ban of 3 years from visiting Japan.

anyone know what happened to the *deleted* reporter who was caught in thailand with a bullet proof vest?

Dropped charges 8 months later.

Mission accomplished. The goal was to intimidate the foreign media.

Australia has very tough gun laws too, unfortunately it took the Port Arthur massacre to push the politicians into action. Now have very rare occasions where there's criminal use of firearms.

How many similar incidents have the US had and still can't figure out there's a problem. Credit to the Aussies for the quick action in stemming  a  huge problem.

This was a story about cops doing their job. Unfortunately a cop died and the perp had to be taken out. BTW, I'm a former cop and a "gun nut". Nobody will ever take our guns, and no it isn't the NRA that keeps it that way. I was a NRA member long ago, they changed, I didn't. Mine are still in the hands of friends back in the states and they aren't your run of the mill. Scary military type weapons, oh be afraid, be very afraid little babies.

Today's militarized cops are out of control and the military "stuff" needs to be taken away and the cops returned to protect and serve, although many never did.  Not all have forgotten protect and serve. Those cops in the story did what they had to do and RIP to the officer down.

Yea, I've been shot at and missed, shit on and hit. Walk a mile in a cop's shoes before you run your mouths.

Guns are the great equaliser. You're Achilles and I'm a wimp, old, crippled, etc. (or a woman), sorry mate, I've got a gun. Makes for a polite society. The downside is the bodycount. There will be accidents, crazy people will get hold of guns. For America it's probably good, for Europe not so much as we have other methods of social control. That basically explains why we have strict gun control and you don't.

You did hit my laughing nerves a lot. I'm neither from America nor is your perverted post funny.

If you hate Americans that much, please grow some balls and confront one with your thoughts.

Yes, I am an Aussie and it was not easy and effected many negative but we all recognised that it was neccessary and achievable .   The difference with the US is that the North and South America are awash with arms both legal and illegal .   The only result of gun laws in the US would be the disarming of the law abiding gun owners who need them for protection from the armed and dangerous offenders, none of whom would be effected.
