IMO the only people who will profit from this are the ones staying long term with back-to-back SETV's who need to renew between December and February next year. timendres Posted December 2, 2016 Share Posted December 2, 2016 IMO Westerners planning a trip to Thailand for vacation are not looking at minutia like deck chairs on the beach or the 1000 baht visa fee. They are looking at the big picture - no legitimate government, run by a military, limited freedoms, country in mourning. What they need to understand is that many tourists do not want to come to a country that is in mourning for 1a year, entertainment venues being forced to close early as well as the government cracking down on zero dollar tour packages. This is a great country with great approachable people and great tourism opportunities, there are plenty of ways to attract tourism, and the reason it is not doing it is down to the lack of intelligence from the government. Don't anyone ask me to expand in that, as it is so obvious to people of normal intelligence what can be done, but perhaps it is a bit late now. That's a joke.What it might do is encourage people who normally get VOA to get a visa from the Embassy/Consulate beforehand to cut queues at the airport, but they should have really left the VOA fee at 2,000THB to encourage this more. Only, it's about 5 or 10 years too late. Most expats have been basing themselves out of the Philippines or Vietnam for awhile now. Bangkok is where they come for their master mind sessions or meetups but it's been such a pain in the butt for anybody to try to establish themselves in BKK that only those with romantic interests in Thailand ever stay in Thailand.
