Photo:PKCR PHUKET: -- The final day of racing off Kata Beach for the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta on Saturday saw all classes of boats competing in only one race each, making the most of good winds in the afternoon after light conditions earlier in the day. A royal award ceremony presided over by HE Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk, personal representative of His Majesty the King of Thailand, was held in the evening at Kata Beach Resort & Spa to honor the winners. Also in attendance were Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul; the regatta’s organizing committee president Kevin Whitcraft; Royal Thai Fleet commander Admiral Sucheep Wangmaitri; Yacht Racing Association of Thailand President Admiral Kraisorn Chansuvanich; Phuket Governor Chokchai Dejamornthan; Kata Group Resorts Director Iam Thavornwongwong; and Ex Commodore of Royal Varuna Yacht Club Tom Whitcraft plus other dignitaries and the sailors. The Winning teams were presented with their trophies by Air Chief Marshal Chalit after a highly competitive last day of races, which began with light breezes that stiffened up later in the day. “Happily today we ended with a true breeze. It really brought the regatta to a close on a good note,” said Race Officer Ross Chisholm on Saturday.
